Bumper cover repair

Apologies again to everyone if this subject has been beaten to death, but I've got a crack in the front bumper cover of my '96 Caprice and would appreciate any tips on repairing it. My research so far basically says there are at least two types of plastic materials used in bumper covers, one being pretty repairable, and one not. Any idea which we have?

You can get a plastic repair kit with a heat gun to melt the part back together. You can also use a soldering gun and some scrap plastic of the same type to fill the repair.

I tried to repair the rear bumper on the wife's '95 and the material wouldn't melt back together. Not sure if the front is the same material.

I drilled a few small holes and used some zip ties to hold the part in place. It looks better because there isn't a big flap blowing around, but the cracks are still visible.

There are metal butterflies that can be melted into the back side of the part to hold it together.

Are you talking about this? I bought one a few weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I believe that is the tool.

yes and tons of videos on YT showing them using it. Actually works very well to fix bumper covers

This popped up on my computer, and posted it on SS forum, so I'll post it here too.

Shipping is $199. It is fiberglass with a flex modifier.

come on fred.... shippping is only listed as $190... not $199...... LOL

at 180 bucks it would be tempting... but almost 400 bucks total its lost its luster lol

It could be a typo. I have been working on fixing my computer all afternoon, and still do not have it fixed.
