| Recently got back into the b body world, found a super sweet 96 white RMW WB4 (i think thats the wood delete code), bone stock super nice. I owned a 96 RMS, but wrapped it around a light pole. Have always wanted a wagon and found the perfect one for me. I am not a computer genius or a very good with the key board, but a B body enthusiast,I am. I need to learn how to make avatar and post pics. Have any of you heard of The Skipper? Saw his wgn on the ssimpalaforum love the wheels but having a hard time ordering them. I guess this isn't the right place to look or ask, grateful to be aboard!

| Welcome aboard and congrats on the 'new' wagon! Post some pics! We have a fairly simple tutorial in the Pics and Video section if you're not sure how. | |

| Wow! Welcome. I was BORN in Plainview, small world! I'm in Austin now, and also have a white 96 Roady wagon, but mine is not a wood-delete. Your car is SHARP! I come up for the Tech games in Lubbock when I can. Will ping you next time I make it up, would be cool to have pics of the cars together. We need more Lone Star State members. Keep the pics coming and again, welcome! -Mike My car: | |

| Welcome to the "Clan of the Longroof".We are a devoted bunch always willing to help and offer a opinion. When and if you meet the Texan' Mike you had better cleaned your wagon to the MAX because Mike is a fanatic about clean vehicles.I am not exaggerating as he has a junkyard truck that he cleans and details BEFORE going to the junkyard and upon its return. You have been warned and you couldnt ask for a nicer more helpful guy with your wagon. Welcome Again Jim Gordon |

| Ask away. The more the questions are asked the easier the answers are to find for the rest of us later. ; )

| So I don't know where this post should go so I'll just throw it in here. A little bit about my Wagon, after decoding all codes i'm still confused. I do not have the tow package, but do have mecanical fan, GW9 2.93 ( DUP with GU3) I have know clue what this is. Just assume that something to do with non posi limited slip, maybe someone could tell me? This car was born in TX and has lived in TX entire life 0% cancer. The owner gave documentation since car was new, perfect. The only thing that needs attention imediatley is the shocks. Are Bilsteins 1104/0929's the right set up. I have HD springs but think they may be a little weak, also will be towing a boat some so thought the airlit1000 might come in handy. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Toby | |

| If you are on a budget look at Monroe Severe Service shocks. On smooth Texas roads these are awesome. Some frost-heave folks up north say they are too firm, but they rate very similar to the Bilsteins in the reviews I've read. You can order these through O'Reilly Auto Parts.
On the rear you have many options. If you have factory air shocks you can replace those with the Monroe's, but you will also want to install variable-rate springs or air bladders in the old stock springs. Cars with the rear air shocks/load levelling do not have as strong springs as the cars without the air shocks.
If your car did not come with the air shocks/ load-levelling you already have variable-rate springs and can just swap the rear shocks.
I tried to cheat on my car in the back. It had leaking rear factory air shocks when I bought it, and very soft front shocks. I put the Monroe Severe Service shocks up front (SO great!), but in the rear I installed Gabrial Load-Carrier coil-over shocks (Autozone), which worked just fine until I tried to tow, at which point the rear squatted like a cocker spaniel in the grass. My next upgrade is going to be varible-rate rear springs, which should solve my towing issues ($75 for the pair from Autozone).
Now some folks have installed aftermarket air shocks, and either added a shrader valve behind the fuel filler door or even spliced into the factory air pump for automatic levelling, but I never messed with any of that. I wanted to get away from air leaks....have had too many issues with air in the past.
-Mike
Oh and PS, I've read the KYB Gas-A-Just shocks are excellent on these cars too, and still retain a smooth and slightly softer ride than the Monroe Severe Service units. Your call. The Monroes are firm, but if you were looking at Bilsteins, they will be about the same firmness.
Once you replace the shocks you will be ASTOUNDED at the change in how the car drives and handles. I sure was.
Sorry I'm not much help on the codes but there are others here that I'm sure will jump in!

| Oh one more thing, if you have factory auto levelling and go to non-air shocks, be sure to pull the air pump relay from the black box up on the passenger front wheel well, under the hood near the firewall. ; ) | |

| Thanks for the info, man sure wish I had your typing skills. ha Since you metioned auto leveling that was another code G67 that says auto level but my car does not, nor ever had auto level. And yes it does have variable rate springs. I see you all over this forum, like i said wish I had your skills. PM me your # sometime would love to talk Wagons and find out more about your Plainview heritage. | |

| The monroes for these cares are the 550012 for the front and 550013 for the rears. Airlift 1000 # is 60755
This is the setup I have on my wagon (with auto level) and I pull a 3500# 6x10 enclosed trailer without issues.
2 years later i need to replace the shocks (more due to bad out of round tires)
Welcome to the forums!!! | |
