93 Roadie Estate TCC issue? Empty
PostSubject: 93 Roadie Estate TCC issue?   93 Roadie Estate TCC issue? Icon_minitimeMon Sep 12, 2011 12:32 pm

Hello again,

93 RMW 230K miles. Feels like the TCC (torque converter clutch) is kicking in and out causing a hard bucking at light throttle under light load at speed. I'm guessing it's wear related. Is it possible to disconnect the system and run without it? Is it adjustable?

Thanks for any input!!

I had my 91 OCC doing this for a while, never got it resolved and sold the car. The only help I can give you is check your ignition system and make sure the engine is running strong under load. I had read it could be an O-ring on the input shaft of the tranny thats falling apart causing a leak, but a removal of the trans is required to check that. Below is a link to a thread I started when I ran into this, some good info in there.

you can disable the TCC, but run the risk of overheating the tranny on long drives. There's a tan wire at the PCM and on the plug on the trans that controls the TCC, disconnect it on either end and the PCM can't command the TCC to lockup. I drove around like that for a while. Good luck!

My 92 OCC did that until I swapped engines. I went from a 305 to a 350. When I read your issue, I just realized that it does not do that any more. I do not know what is different off hand. The 305 was unbolted, and the 350 was bolted in.

I am trying to recall the changes that were included, and the things that stayed the same.

I changed the injectors to the 350s that came with the engine, but not the throttle body itself. I kept the original distributor, the original ignition wires, the original coil, and had new plugs installed. I put the computer from the donor in the OCC. All the wiring was just hooked up to the donor engine.

The 305 had the plugs that it came with, and I never changed them.

The plugs may be the answer...when was the last time you changed your plugs?

The TCC can be disabled at the brake cancel switch by unplugging it.....You will find two plunger switches being held "plunged" by the brake pedal arm. The top switch has two plugs with each having two wires. The plug having a pink wire and a purple wire powers the TCC. Simply unplug it!
If you have unplugged the wrong plug your cruise control wont work!
If you can verify that the TCC unlocks in fourth gear when you tap the brakes and it no longer does so after unplugging, than you pulled the right plug!
There is NO DOWNSIDE to disabling the TCC except highway fuel mileage. If Highway mileage matters, add a toggle switch!
