The bossman came in this morning and said he saw a wagon like mine with sidepipes, he said he liked the look. Anyone seen sidepipes on a B-Body wagon? Care to comment on looks/sound? I would love to see some pictures if anyone has them - I searched the internet a bit but found only pics of one wagon with them - black Caprice called Shammoo you may have seen before.

Pat,did you ever think about building a convertible top for the ratmaster?I was thinking how neat it would have looked with a genuine imitation alligator/leopard skin softtop. The framework would have been a nitemare though! Jim

Jim I wanted to make a hard shell cover not unlike the ones from the early 60's T birds that would have covered the rear seats and cargo area so it would look like long trunk, then use an interior cover like the MGB's had

Sounds interesting and HEAVY.No problem for you Pat because I know you would build a hoist for holding the top when not in use.Stop the top just shy of the front seat for a targa roofline and wind in your hair kinda thing. That would look kinda neat! Jim

I think I've seen that Shammoo wagon once or twice before, as well as heard it a few times ... very loud, but deep, throaty and obnoxious... reminds me of my wife.
Just like your license plate... the wagon may not have wood, but I did when I heard it the first time.

Sorry Dave! I was thinking I had just seen you on the ISSF board. Some forums are funny about bringing up other "rival" forums so I kept it low key. I like the sidepipes on your wagon, but I'm not sure it would look right on a fairly unmodified woody wagon like mine. If no pictures can be had, I'll have to Photoshop some on I suppose.
Pat, I dig the Ratmaster!

I can tell you the worst part is limited clearance going over bumps of any sort. Because of having to get under the frame, there is very limited clearance. This is without cats and a very short flexible coupling at the header flange. I scrape a lot, and going over speed bumps and high driveway/ sidewalk approaches are out of the question. I even had to put more ashphalt at the base of my driveway.

the ratmaster was running the stock exhaust manifolds cut up and moded the Y pipe from a caddy 500 to make true duals that first run into two cats, then straight out to the middle of the long 4" lakes pipes where the exhaust dumps into glass packs inside the long pipes, works well and is emissions friendly.
Like Dave says with the pipe going under the frame makes scraping pavements and curbs, speed bumbs a common event.
One thing most people who've never had lake pipes forget is that they do get hot, they can and will give you and your passengers nasty burns on the inside of your ankles and lower legs if you forget about them being there when you go to leave the car.

The place of the the burning of the leg has an infamous long held tradition in Hot Rodding. That's why I have the heat shields on mine. With them on, never been burned yet, even though I and passengers have touched the shields many a time.

Is it possible to run the pipes out at the rear of the front fender behind the wheel? If I remember correctly, there is nothing in that area on either side. The bottom of the wheelhouse needs trimmed, and maybe the bottom of the fender needs a cutout. It appears that the limiting factor is the bottom of the doors.

It can be done. After my side pipes rust off or get ripped out, that's what Ii'll be doing.
The secondary issue on earlier cars 91-93 is that the transmission support was not designed to have a pipe of any sort pass by on the drivers side. You have to swap supports from a later or aftermarket source..

If you are running side pipes you do not go under the car, the pipes never get to the transmission support.

Sorry, I mis-read your post . I thought it said about an exit in front of the rear wheels.
Since I am one the few running sidepipes, I would be already aware of the point that they do not run past the cross-member.
Now that I understand your original question better, when it was up on the lift I did not find room to get the pipes past the frame at the front wheel well where the frame tuns inward and upward. The pipes exit fairly parallel with the frame from the Headers, and that was with shorty truck headers. Long headers would require S bend and still force going under the frame
There is only about 30 inches of pipe on Shammoo before the Sidepipes. A flex coupling and two quick bends before the chrome 90* inlet pipe. That's it.
