I believe the pressure switch is there tell the pcm to bump the idle speed a bit when the engine is at idle speed while turning the steering wheel hard. Maneuvering in a parking lot for instance. Shouldn't be too much of an issue for you with out it. Give it a whirl.

As for the wire, email Gery at innovative wiring, maybe he will give you a lead.

The power steering switch has minimum impact if left off. It normally recognizes higher pressure events in the steering fluid system, like turning the wheel when still or barely rolling, such as driveways and parking lots. Usually it signals the computer to add about 50 rpm to idle speed to combat the extra drag in the system. That's about it.

Kind of trivial, but kind of cool. That's what makes a Buick a cut up from a Chevy.

It is small gauge wire. You can get it in assorted colours, cheap, at Harbor Freight.

Not that you need this much, but this is where we go to get wire & connector parts:

Waytek Inc.

For the little you need the price sounds reasonable, but the colors are limited.

This is an excellent idea, by far the best way to add in more wire length.

Source the new section from a yard, or perhaps someone here may have that portion of a LT1 harness they would be willing to part with for reasonable money.

Use the new PCM connectors and harness to attach to the relocated PCM, de-pin the existing PCM connectors and splice into the new section.

No worry of wire colors or gauge, as they will all match.

The PS switch is there to allow the PCM to anticipate a low idle condition when the pump demand increases. Not all systems use them.

As an example, the difference between the 7746 PCM’s used in TBI cars and the 7747 PCM used in TBI trucks was essentially the elimination of the PS switch in the truck application.

Not sure why you would want to, but other than a momentary drop in idle speed when the steering is turned, it can be removed.

thanks jay i will check out the other site. i have part of a harness i took from another 94 that is going to work , but some of the wires are just to short. ex. the # 1 fuel injector that wire goes to computer i will need to add over4 '. i am going up my dads (where i keep the wagon in the winter) to night to see if the computer is going to fit where i want it, then i will no how much wire i need. i was looking at p/s switch in fsm looks to be normally open and close when pressure rises. i am trying to make engine compartment look as simpl as possible. after computer i want to clean up pass side wheelwell remove stuff and hide what i cant

My parts specialist (my son) says I have a LT1 harness or two that I am not using so he says.

i was wondering if someone knows of a connector like the one in the pic. i wanted to use this one so if i needed to remove the harness it would be easy. the one in pic i was going to use has 2 bolt mounting flange but they are to expensive. it would need to handle 76 wires and be water proof. any help would be great. thanks

They are called Cannon plugs. You can find them in military surplus. Problem is, the largest I have seen is 49 pin.

i also seen them as deutsh. i think that who makes them they have a 97 pin but it will not handle the size wire i need it would take 2 of the smaller ones and they want $100. a pc then boots for them would be another $60. i use to build switchgear for the navy and they used then all the time. if i cant find something affordable i have a bulk head fitting that bolts in then you run wire threw it and tighten up a nut that the wire runs threw it has a rubber seal in the nut. but not really easily removeable.

Hey John,do you have a "West Marine" catalog.I know they have that style connector and once
you get a part number you can find it way cheaper elsewhere. They have everything electrical
and water proof as well!

no but do they have a online catalog. half of me is thinking i am making this into more than it needs to but i always like being able to take something apart easily and figure this makes it easy if i need to add more wire or need to change things later
