| One tough looking ride, tint the tails, blacken out the chrome including the rims, and change out the headlights to shaded ones, and put some badass flowmasters on that and drive around only at night. LOL J/k again welcome to the board.

| Speaking of exhaust, what's the best bang for the buck set up on these wagons? Also being as it's got the 350 tbi, will a factory dual setup from a 9c1 with the LT1 bolt up to my vehicle? | |

| Welcome to the forum!
I'm in Texas but lived in Tulsa as a kid from 1978-1985. Lots of good memories from there, going to Peaches Records and Tapes, eating at Casa Bonita and Crystal's Pizza. Birthday parties at Showbiz Pizza and Mom dragging us all over the big mall there. Family days riding bikes on the paths and across the bridge on the river downtown and playing on the sand bars, ice skating at The Williams Center and weekends screaming on the coaster at Bell's Amusement Park, and of course going to the state fair.
My '81 Citation X-11 came from Swinson Chevy, and my parents first new car was a '78 Grand Safari wagon special-ordered at Ernie Miller Pontiac. We lived on 55th Street in a neighborhood called Sungate.
Have not made it back to Tulsa in years, but again, lots and lots of good memories from there. Glad you found the forum and hope you hang out a while!
-Mike

The LT1 system won't work without modding a bit. Your transmission crossmember is not notched for dual pipes. Best advice is to look in the Exhaust section of the forum. I know others will chime in. -Mike

Well considering I wasn't born till 3 yrs after you moved, quite a bit has changed! Never heard of some of the places you mentioned. Lol I live within throwing distance of Casa Bonita. It has sense gone by many names and ultimately turned into a big creepy empty restraunt. Ernie Miller is still selling cars, Where Bells once stood is now concrete to provide more parking for the Quick Trip center (formerly known as expo square) but the big Oiler still stands watch out front. River walk and the pedestrian bridge are still hot spots. I know exactly where Sungate is! If you want send me your old address and I'll post a pic of your old house. I know is cools to show your kiddos where dad used to live.

| Nice looking wagon. I love the wheels. Need some whitewalls! On my TBI cars, I've done the bigger 9C1 Y-pipe, no cat, and a Dynomax Ultra Flow with 2.5" pipe from the Y back. Love the sound and it actually wakes the car up a bit, too. Welcome. | |

I know is cools to show your kiddos where dad used to live. Thank you for making me feel really REALLY old..... Bells is GONE?? It's GONE?? That was a good-sized amusement park! That HURTS to hear, that place was a huge part of my childhood. They had a really cool funhouse and the wooden coaster was great. I'm really shocked! Crystals Pizza was in the strip mall behind Casa Bonita. It was a big place with an arcade in it, and they had a two-story front covered in neon and flashing lights. Casa Bonita was also a landmark. The food was just so-so but it also has a good arcade, plus wild colors inside, a fountain, a cave....as kids we loved it. I have pictures of us all under The Oiler in front of Expo Square....which is the name I remember. Dad took me to see John Cougar there....back when he was still John Cougar and not John Mellencamp. I remember how loud Jack and Diane was in that huge building, and all the new car shows were in Expo Square as well, plus the fair exibits. Spent a lot of time in the building. Cool that Ernie Miller is still there. My Dad is a car nut too and we spent many Sundays walking that lot looking at new Firebirds and such. I remember when the Fiero came out and we went and sat in them in the showroom. I also remember when the '82 Firebirds came out and Dad thought they were total junk...and I loved them...Knight Rider fan...ahaha! Since Pontiac is gone, what do they sell now, GMC trucks? There was a good-sized shopping center just down from Ernie Miller, and it had a movie theater in it, and E.T. played there for over a year. Hahahaha! Also barely remember seeing Airplane! in there with my Dad. I was too young to see it and my Mom tore my Dad a new one when she found out he'd taken me. Ditto Urban Cowboy. Saw Tron there too...ahaha....dang I AM old! Funny you mention Quik Trip. Their mascot back then was a dog named Lamar, and they had a dog show in 1983, and my Mom entered our cocker spaniel Lady in the show. She put the poor dog in a sweater and it had a big picture of Lamar glued on it with the words "My Hero", and Mom won a "funniest dog" trophy for it. Hahahaha. Have not thought of that in 20 years at least.... Our address was 6856 E. 55th street. I can't believe I remember that. It was a little green ranch-style house. Driveway went beside the house and the 2-car garage was actually in the back yard. Sledded down that driveway in the winter and fried an egg on the sidewalk in front of that house one summer. I remember Tulsa in terms of cold and hot, ha! If you do drive over there, at the bottom of 55th street was Sunbelt Park and swimming pool. I played for lord knows how many hours in the creek that ran through that park, and learned how to swim in that pool. Curious if all that is still there. Went to Jonas Salk Elementary school, and my Dad helped build the wooden "Big Toy"playground at that school. Since I'm totally going down memory lane now, is Peaches still there? It was near Sungate, but dang if I remember the road name. It was a big music store. Dad bought me my first records there, Foreigner 4, The Tubes "She's a Beauty", and Princes's "Little Red Corvette". Peaches had famous people come and put their hand prints and names in concrete, and those were placed in the walkway outside the building. I remember when Meat Loaf came...ahahaha! Across from Peaches was a shopping center called...ummm...The Barn or The Farm or something like that. Sungate was behind it. They had a Mazzio's Pizza with a Crosley station wagon inside that had been converted into a salad bar. Also had a Baskin Robbins we were in a lot, and a Pier One Imports my Mom loved but we as kids HATED because she spent forever in there. In the parking lot they had old tractors and wagons as decorations, and my brother and I loved to climb on those. Ok I've way hi-jacked this now. Thanks for the memories. Have not even thought of Tulsa in a long time... Still sick about Bells. That's SAD. -Mike

| Yes I hated to see Bells go! I've never heard of Peaches but I'm 2 miles from The Farm Shopping center! Mazzios is still there, the salad bar is a normal one, but they still have the retro theme everywhere inside. Baskin Robins is there along with Pier1 Imports and the old tractors and farming equipment continue to rust lol. I'm pretty sure Your once beloved record store is now now Discount Liquor. I'll snag a pic of it and post on this thread. | |

Wow...that record store is now a liquor store. It was directly across the street from The Farm, a big square building, not part of a strip mall or anything. The outside of the store was decorated with huge blown-up record album covers, and they had those concrete panels all around the building with hardprints and signatures of bands and stars. Googled and found this: http://www.themortonreport.com/entertainment/music/peaches-records-tapes-warm-memories-of-a-fallen-giant/Amazing to hear all those tractors and such are still in the parking lot of The Farm. They were old when I lived there. Is the Camelot Hotel still there? It was a big place that looked like a castle down near the river. We stayed there in 1978 when my folks were house-hunting and I accidentally set off the fire alarm going through an emergency door, and the entire hotel was evacuated because of me...hahaha....my Dad was PISSED My Dad worked for Southwestern Bell, first in downtown Tulsa and then in an office building that sat on the other side of Sungate, next to some aparments/condo's up on a hill called The Falls. Those apartments were new when we moved to Tulsa, and right after we moved into our new home there was a huge storm and a tornado took down a bunch of those. Made big new...scared my Mom to death because our house was so close. That's something else....Tornado drills in the hallways of my grade school and the tornado sirens on the field. Kneel down on your knees, put your head on the floor facing the lockers and your hands behind your head (and kiss your ass goodbye...haha). We moved to St. Louis in 85 for three months, then Denver from 85-86, and finally New Jersey from late 86-1992. Been in Texas since then. I only had tornado drills in Tulsa. Ha! Thanks again for the memories! -Mike

| Sadly, the giant landmark known as Camelot Hotel met it's match to an implode to make room for the I-44 widening project. Peaches was most recently an over priced modern furniture store that went belly up a few months ago. It's empty gie the time being. I have a friend who lives in the Falls Apartments presently known asdf the Vista Hills. The just did a huge makeover to those buildings. They look really nice. | |

Sad about The Camelot. It was a neat place. They filmed a movie called "Tex" with Matt Dillon when we lived in Tulsa, and we drove out to watch them film a part in the parking lot of that hotel. If I remember right, the movie "The Outsiders" filmed in Tulsa while we were there as well. There was a old drive-in movie that was really run down...think it was out near the airport, but again, it's been years. Saw a double-feature of Raiders of the Lost Ark followed by Flash Gordon at that drive-in. Haha. Hey just found a good page on Peaches and it shows the concrete pavers. I can see the album posters are long gone off the walls, but I'd be curious if the concrete handprint markers are still there on the ground around the building today. If you are in that area sometime let me know please. http://www.flickr.com/photos/losttulsa/sets/72057594048519539/ - I clearly remember the Pina Colada and Skynyrd ones. Mom loved The Pina Colada song, and Dad is still a big Skynyrd fan. -Mike
