| Simple like it says. Looking to upgrade my alt. Will a 140amp LT1 alt fit on my car? Are the plugs the same?
Thanks. |

| Check the FEAD for a 93 FW. It has a massive 140 watt alternator. The driver's side may be all you need, but you may have to swap the whole FEAD. You will get the alternator you want. There is one here in a yard, and LKQ will have a 1/2 price sale this weekend. the PS pump is the same, and the AC compressor is the same. I am going to the junk yards on Sat, I will check. | |

| Yeah if I have to go through all that, I'd rather upgrade wiring first, and add my second battery that I have laying around before I go through the trouble of adding the alt. |

| You are not adding an alternator, you are replacing the bracket and alternator with on from a 93 FW. I checked my 93 FW FSM, and you should be able to just replace the bracket and alternator. You may have to get another belt, because I do not know if the FW alternator sits on the same center as the Caprice unit. Other than that, and maybe the connector, it will bolt up. I am pulling the one on the FW in the yard here either way. I may want to add the 140 amp alternator to my car. There is a half price sale this weekend at the local yards. | |

| If you're anal, the only wire you would have to upgrade a size is the short positive one from alternator to battery. The ground is heavy enough because it's already sized for cranking the engine. | |

| Well, I'd be upgrading all of the cables to 1/0 gauge anyway.
The focus here is car audio. Need all the power I can get. |

| I am going to pull the 93 FW alternator/power steering pump mount, and the alternator tomorrow. Pretty easy, and it will bolt right up to an LO3/5 (93 FW is an LO5). Huge alternator (140 watt), way bigger than the stock one. Probably the same one as on the LT1. It appears to use the same connector. I also has two braces, one to the intake mainfold, and one to the exhaust manifold. The first bolt on each...bolt with extended thread above the nut. | |

| Hmm... I'll have to look for one. This project is on hold for now - need more money, but I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for suggestions for more charging power.
Anybody think our stock alternator can be re-wound successfully? |

| I picked the 140 watt alternator, and bracket from the FW today. It will bolt up to the LO3/5, and does not even look like it needs a different belt. It took me about 1/2 hour to get it off. | |

| So pulley diameter is the same as the standard 100 amp alt? Hmmm... good to know, I already have a different belt from AIR pump delete. lol |

Better go 4/0. Can't be too cautious... | |
