Air Lift 1000 - # of pressure? Empty
PostSubject: Air Lift 1000 - # of pressure?   Air Lift 1000 - # of pressure? Icon_minitimeWed Sep 19, 2012 10:39 am

I finally got my HD Bilstein shocks, Moog 623 rear springs and the AirLift 1000 helper bags installed. I've been playing with the pressure and I'm wondering how many lbs of pressure are you running unloaded?

unloaded is about 5-6psi

Just enough to move the rear bumper up a smidge.

Thanks - now I know why this morning I drove to work with 20# and it seemed a little stiff.

Last week I had Bilstiens Installed all the way around and today the Airlift 1000 with compressor. The shocks were great improvement in the Factory GM ones 59,000). Great ride. I am going to pull my 22' Airstream from Central coast of Oregon to Sacramento CA then to Colorado and back in October. I will post about the trip and the ride.

5-8 psi daily driving. Below 5 can damage the bags,

The range is 5-35 PSI. I run between 5-20 unless I am pulling a trailer.

Well I get to see how good the Airlift warantee is........ After installing the Air springs we took a 3200 mile trip pulling the trailer. Everything was great until about 1000 miles. The compressor would a raise the car a bit then go back down. Yesterday we put it on the lift and had a leak in the right bag. The left one would inflate.
Some of you have upgraded with Moog CC623. I think I will go with a set of those and new bags. I do not want to use stiffer cargos springs that will rattle my teeth when empty. We use the Olds to haul everything, including 200 lbs of dogs and our airstream.

If you buy the airlift set up, there is a minimum pressure sensor switch and it pumps the bags up to 5psi if they ever drop below it. I love that feature, it save the bags. I run mine around 7psi usually.

Did you use the same bags in the new springs as the old. I think they have different part numbers for different springs.

Mine have about 100k miles on them without issue, but I do have the pump and minimum pressure sensor.

I bought the whole shebang. Wireless control; compresser would go on if I kept it at minimum of 5 lbs. I drove it for a week empty and found 8lbs kept the ride good and the compressor whould not come on every time you got in the car.

Then I hooked up the Airstream and took off on a long trip. For 1000 miles it worked great. I found 20-25 lbs worked great and kept the car's rear wher I wanted it.

After that it sagged in the rear. I went 2000 more miles. Mind you the difference is like only three inches, with trailer, but that is enough to throw off the balance of the trailer and drag going in and out of driveways.
I have not bought the new bags or springs yet.
