| Does any one know how to remove the rear cargo area carpeted assembly? I'm talking about the part that goes from behind the back seat all the way to the tail gate, with the carpet on it. I found a nice one at a junk yard, and am wondering how involved it is to remove, also if I need any special tools. The last thing I want to do is get there, and not have some tool I might need. I am going back to the yard tomorrow, so if anyone can respond today I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Mark. | |

| I took one out a couple years ago and forget all the particulars, but I didn't need and special tools. Quite a few bolts and should probably take you about an hour to 90 minutes. There's a spring associated with the third seat back so be careful with that. | |

There's a spring associated with the third seat back so be careful with that. I was just outside poking around, and found that under the rubber strips that there are many 7mm bolts. There are also a few pop rivets. Do you remember if you had to drill out any rivets to remove the assembly? And, what about the spring you spoke of? I assume you mean the spring that releases the rear seat. Should the seat be partially up to take the tension off the spring as I work? I'm tempted to take mine out to see how it all comes apart, but with my luck I'll go to the yard tomorrow, and someone else will have taken it, or worse, put some greasy part in there and ruin it. Thanks for all your help, by the way.

| I recall a spring in the actual seat back which is why it sort of pops up when you release it. Like I said it was a few years ago, lol. I don't recall having to pop any rivets out.
I would say start with all the 7mm bols and then figure out what's holding it on...
I parted the whole car that day so some of it is a passing memory. (except where I almost lost my nards from the tailgate spring. It shot past my jewels and hit and punctured a metal wall 30 ft away!)

| Well I got it out. All the 7mm nuts are under the rubber trim (which I assume is to absorb noise/vibration), and after they are all removed, loosen the panels which house the rear speakers. Once you pull the speaker enclosures a little loose, the whole assembly will slide out the rear gate. Be sure to release the 3rd seat release cable, and the spring you talked about is on the driver side. It sits under the rail that is bolted to the floor. By having the seat partly up, I don't think there is as much pressure on the spring. It snapped a little, but nothing to be afraid of. I am wondering, however, how fun it is going to be to get that spring back in place when I get the new parts tomorrow. Oh well, more fun for another day!! | |

| I have a post somewhere with pics....I've done it a couple times.
Yes, that torsion bar will be a PITA to get back in. Let me see if I can find my post.

| To remove the lower seat (or install)...Push the bottom of the cushion toward the front of the car and lift. ____ Disconnect the pull cable... ____ You then remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold the seatback to the brackets on the rails. ____ Now for the torsion bar. Let the seatback come back down...almost all the way. (less pressure on the bar) Pry the bar out of the hole and push it down under the hole. ____ Lift the passenger side up...push the drivers side down so the bar will go under the frame rail bracket...and BAM! Seat is out When installing it again...you may find it easier to loosen the 7mm bolts that hold the cargo area frame. This will allow you to lift up the driver's side and get that torsion bar in the right place easier. Your call. But again, go slow and use common sense. Its better to unbolt something to make it fit to avoid bending or breaking something. | |

| I removed the rivets at the rear corners so that I would not bent the rails. Other than that, it is pretty simple and straight forward. | |

| A related query, I want to remove just the front load floor of a 94-96 version which is the section that stays flat at all times. I know there are 3 screws holding it down but I cannot readily see how the piece comes up after the screws are out. I don't want to force it.
It's the stationary floor section that has the extra carpet flap that would attract to the back of the rear seat.

| It's attached to the rails/framing...not sure you can take just that piece out easily | |

| I think you have to remove it with the rails, then you can remove it from the rails | |
