| It is such a pain in the butt to mess around inside the rear axle that I would never put a stock differential back in, even at that price. For $75 cheaper I'd consider it. | |

| There was an article about limited slip diffys in Car Craft this month. It was indicating that Dana/Spicer diffys had the better ability to deal with over 400 horsepower, others barely 300HP. I'd like to drop a posi and new gears into Shammoo over the winter.
Any thoughts out there on your own experiences?
Does a wagon require different specifications than an Impala or Caprice sedan? I'm thinking Spline counts here.

| Differentials are the same between sedans and wagons, but be careful of the gear ratio; 2.73s and down got a thinner differential carrier; 2.93s and up got a thicker one to account for the smaller ring gear. 30 splines on the axles. | |

| So currently I have stock set of non-posi 3.05s in Shammoo. I have a set of 3.43's I went to throw in at the same time I do the posi, but and concerned about the ABS reluctor not being there.
Thoughts on salvaged (used) posi's versus the big buck new items?

| If they're free or nearly free, I'd think about them. The challenge is do you really know they actually still work? There are also several flavors. The Auburn cone-type is okay if it's nearly free. The GM "gov-lock" posi that came in trucks requires wheelspin to engage the mechanism. It's really designed for mud and snow and doesn't hold up well if the slip happens on a grippy surface like asphalt.
That's what I know. I'm sure others know more.
