So visiting folks in a nearby state. Two doors down there is a RMW sitting there. My parents said it was an older ladies car. It was her husbands who died some time ago. She has a new man now, and they have two new cars. My dad said the wagon is hardly ever driven. I don't know if it will be for sale, but left a note saying I was interested. They winter somewhere else, so may not hear for awhile.

A 94-96 I think, probably not a 96 because I saw no collectors badging. Dark red with red leather. Woodgrain. Crawled under car. NO rust, so probably not driven much in winter. All very good shape. A few small scratches and a little woodgrain torn on rear gate-maybe a half inch. Looked in the interior. Nice shape. Odometer read 61k! Car not perfect, but probably an 7-8 out of 10.

If they do call me, how much do you think this car is worth? Was thinking 5k or so?

Hard to say what it worth without pics, or seeing it in person, but 5K might be in the ballpark if it has been spared from road salt. I had a Black Caprice wagon with 69,000 miles on it, and it looked pretty good from 15-20 ft.....

No, to little, very little rust is thee most important thing to look for. Low miles is nice, but a clean car is what you need to concentrate on. No rust, and low miles.... This one could be a winner, take a good second look at it if you can.

Well, the Buick dealer raved how clean my 95 sedan was underneath. And I have seen it. But this wagon looked much cleaner. Again, the car had some wear and tear, but looked very nice from 10ft. My current RM may have a bit more polish, and looks great from 10ft.

I offer less and work up to that....prices seem to be going up lately so 5 sounds about right for a clean low mile.....they are getting harder to find.

This would be my plan. They are well off, so I would hope they would ask in the 3-4 range. She may be holding on to it because of the memory of her husband, but is doing the car disservice just letting it sit. It has been sitting about 6 months, and it needs to get going now!

Figuring out the year - look at the last 8 of the VIN on the windshield. If it starts with RR it's a '94, SR is a '95, and TR is a '96.

Instead of figuring out a price going in, you need to figure out what HER value proposition really is. If the car has sentimental value to her because of her husband, then ask her why her husband liked the car so much. Whatever she tells you is how you will treat the car yourself. When you show up, make sure you point to your Roadmaster and make sure it's clean so you can say "I take care of my cars, and I'd take of your husband's car too." Negotiating a price is secondary to that.

I will also let her know the car will be garaged once again. And I would tool up in my sedan for sure. Might speak volumes.... I have no idea when and if she will call. Could be away for a few more weeks. Still, worth watching for sure.
