Old bushings can squeak. You can not grease them, so if the rubber is loose, it can squeak. If the front is sitting low, and you are getting tire wear on the inside, you probably need some positive camber. The rubber in the bushings can fail, and if it is missing, it can cause negative camber issues. Before you check your alignment make sure your bushings are in good condition. You also have to tighten the bolts/nuts for the bushings with the suspension in its running position, under load, or the car will sit high, and the bushings will be under load at all times. This can lead to premature bushing failure.
The easiest way to remove the driver's side upper control arm, is to remove the studs from the frame, then it will come out without removing the intermediate steering shaft. The right side is easier. As stated above, you need a specialized press for the upper bushings. Lowers can be done with the proper tool rented from most auto supply stores (free).
There are a couple of threads on how to do the job on the forum.
