| There is a 9C1 L05 in the yard down here. I was going to pull the cam and computer (I have the injectors) on Memorial Day weekend half price days. It will probably still be there if you are interested. $175 plus tax for the entire engine including the core. I think it has about 114K on it. If you bring your core, the total is $106.

Hmm... miniature mod day at my house? LOL That's not bad.... I haven't called any of the local yards here yet, but I'm about to start doing that. Fun times. |

LOL! That is true. Would my accessories bolt up? Depends really on what they have. A local guy from the ISSF/INC forum is coming by tomorrow to check it out. He builds race motors, so I figure his ear = better than mine. Will update. |

| They have to have a 454 available to buy before you can get one at that price. The FEAD will not fit from a 350 to a 454, so you are looking at another $75, and you do not get a starter for that price either, so add another $20 (on half price weekend for these prices). You could get a Vortec 350 with a computer and harness from a truck for an additional $80 that weekend as well. Starter and FEAD still extra. LO5 FEAD may fit the Vortec. | |

| Or, he could spend a few extra bucks, do the same labour, and have a really cool wagon.
You use the FEAD from the 454 and the computer. Your accessories will work on the 454 FEAD. Stock 700R4 will work. Stock mounts work. This has all been done before. | |

A wagon that starts, doesnt leak oil or overheat would be pretty cool too!Plus a big block is heavier, thirstier and harder on your driveline especially a 20 year old driveline. |

| Well, it doesn't do the first three right now... might be time to have some fun with it. Of course, it would depend on what Ray plans to do with it. Is it going to be a commuter vehicle? May as well stuff a 305 in it. | |

| Left that first guy a message, Mike.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.... Also called the one Sprocket posted. Negotiated him down to $250, but he seems like a flake. We'll see.
Maybe I could fix Grimace with the 305 and put mine on the sidelines for awhile and do something cool for it.
Hmm....
Then again, called the guy you posted, Mike. Left a message.
Who knows. |

| Sprocket just looked at that motor. Photos incoming.
Would I re-use my intake manifold from the TBI? I think I've seen here where some say the intakes for our cars are different? |

| The motor was pulled from a 1990 2500 pickem up truck. THe seller says he's not sure about the originality of the motor as a Turbo 400 was bolted to the back of it. Bought with a blown head gasket, replaced and had heads reworked. Put it back in and realized he wanted more horsies, so went the LS swap route. Said it's been sitting about 8 months. here are a few pics from my phone. Sorry for the blurry ones: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |

Nick, Jay, anyone else: what do you think? Also, will my headers bolt up to those exhaust ports? |

| Looks like that motor is weather compromised,.
I,ve used worse in the past,. pulled the plugs, bolted a starter to it, spun it over with a lots of diesel fuel thru it,.then put the plugs back in and checked compression,. if all 8 holes pump up good,./??
In your case i agree,. pass,..

| Yeah, that thing definitely sat outside, and I'd say longer than 8 months. I've had a motor in my garage for a year, and it looks like the day I pulled it out of the car. | |

| I was not particularly excited about the valve picture either. Ray, if you can get a truck down here over Memorial Day weekend, I will help you pull the LO5 from the cop car in the Tampa LKQ. I am headed over there anyway. Even if you don't have your core, it is still really cheap. You can return the core to any LKQ junk yard within 30 days. 114K on the clock, and a bolt in. It would pay you to drive down here to get it. There is a guy with a 91 police drive train on the Tampa craigslist, but he wants way too much money for it, to the tune of $800 for the engine alone. He says it should only have about 30K on it??? Junk yard $200...craigslist $800... | |

| Haven't yet. No. Still waiting to hear from the dude who said he'd come take a look at it for me. Just kind of checking stuff out to look.
Fred - getting over there is going to be costly. Three hours there, three hours back, and renting a truck. There's an LKQ here in West Palm Beach, so that's still an option. |

| Ray, have you thought about buying a decent running 350 powered rwd sedan or truck with a bad trans, rear end, or totalled from a bad accident? Every once in a while, I come across a good possible engine donor on CL from one of those things happening to it. | |

| Haven't really seen anything.
Local junkyard has a complete engine out of a 3/4 ton truck for $400. It's in the truck and runs. Monday I'm going to swing by and listen to it. They say $400 and they pull it. I just pick it up.
I know the $175 LKQ motor is a good deal, but honestly... maybe saving half the labor costs is worth it.
I'll check the truck motor out. |

| If I were in your financial shoes (no job, no money), and I am, I would do all the work. I did my engine and trans, completely by my self (except a couple of small things like lifting the hood off, and a couple of bucks for a friend to pick the engine up with his truck). I begged, borrowed (engine hoist), and well not stole, what I needed to get the job done. If I had not done a few (lot of) things to the engine while off of the car, the extras were only about $75, and that was mostly transporting heavy/big stuff. My policy on work vs. money: If I make more per hour than you do, you do the job; if you make more money per hour than I do, I do the job; if we both make equal money, I do the less messy job. | |

| Since we're all convinced that the old engine needs to come out anyways... why not put it on a stand, pull the pan, and take off the mains to see if it can be saved? | |

| That's the plan.
...for Grimace.
If I can get a running good one right now for my car, I can drop it in and call it good, then if mine can be saved, Grimace can get it. |

| Called local JY back. They say the truck motor has 175k miles on it.
Ehhhhh....
Still $400. He said they pulled it out on Saturday, so I can't hear it run, but he swears it sounded nice. 60-day warranty.
Ehhhh..... |
