My 1986 Chevy Caprice Estate Wagon is having a lot of fun causing problems I just had the fuel pump replaced recently because the car was leaking oil in that area now the car smells like oil when idling, and when your in reverse backing up it stalls, once you shut off the car and turn it back on its fine though. I don't understand why it would do this definitely calling up the place i had put my fuel pump in after that I really don't know.

My wagon does the same thing when I reverse into a spot while turning almost full lock, usually with the A/C on.  It'll cut off unless you are making it move quick.  Does it feel like it stutter then die?  I always thought it was an electrical problem.

Yes almost identical except sometimes it happens without the ac on did you ever find out what the problem was.

No. It was infrequent enough that it wasn't a big issue to address. Plus it's low on the list of problems the wagon has.

Ahhh that seems to be the only problem but it is very infrequent which I'm glad about. You have the Buick wagon I've always wanted one of those wish you luck on the problems hope they are not to bad

That is an odd issue! If it actually runs fine after restarting, the only thing I can think of, and this is a shot in the dark, is the ignition switch, or the adjustment of the ignition switch rod in the steering column.
POSSIBLY when you shift from drive to reverse the linkage to the ignition switch is being activated(the rod from the key cylinder to the ignition switch) maybe you could try adjusting the switch see if it affects the issue? Does your car have a tilt Column? And if so is there alot of slop in the tilt mechanism?
When I put the tilt Column in my 78 the column had alot of slop because the U-joint mounting bolts had come loose, and it caused issues with the ignition lock not actuating the rod. Also just did not feel secure when driving. I had to tighten up and lock tight the 4 U-joint bolts to cure this issue and make it feel right when driving.

Good Luck with it. And if you find the issue let us know what it is please!!!
