| Does anybody have classic car insurance on their 91-96 B-Bodies. I have a 1991 1a2 CAprice Wagon that I need insurance on. Hagerty Insurance quoted me, made me send pictures, and a credit card but in the end said the car was not considered collectible. I just need insurance for shows and things like that. Not regular dailey driver insurance.
I would appreciate any company names that you guys use.
THanks, Nick in PA

| Give American National a buzz. They have various policies available. Matter of fact, I think I have one of each. My OCC has a standard policy as it's my daily driver. The GN is covered with their CHROME collector car policy. The Cutlass didn't fully qualify for CHROME because the paint is rough so it's covered under a similar specialty car policy and the GS has an under-construction policy for a teency premium since it's in pieces. | |

| Greg, Thanks, I just tried their on line quote. The only option for a car less then 25 years is considered a "Modern Classic". In order for it to qualify, it needs a value of 15K. They also want appraisal information. I love the car, but I cant imagine an appraiser would value it at that. I always thought a classic was 20-25 years old. I guess not. Nick

| Both my '92 Cruiser and Fleetwood are covered under American Collectors Insurance.
Interesting that Hagerty wouldn't cover you, they were ready to insure my Cruiser but not my Fleetwood because the claimed I "hadn't owned it long enough".
Might also check out Grundy, I've not dealt with them.

| They sent me a paper quote for the 1991 Caprice Wagon. All pre filled out by their rep. Then I had to send photos, show proof of insurance on other information. I had to pay by credit card, etc....It was all good. They accepted my other car and then I recieved the call. A 1991 Caprice Wagon is neither old enough, valuable enough, and isnt considered collectible. Their researh shows the average value at $4500. They may have quoted you on your 1992 as they did me, but once the reps send it to the under wrighters Im sure they would have given you a call as well. Or maybe they changed their policy. Ill give American Collectors a call. Thanks alot, Nick

| This is a problem that others have encountered. I'm surprised Mike has his cars covered but I know his Olds is low miles and clean. Probably got a writer on a good day??? I know Acme Racer who has two very nice customized wagons having the same problem. The insurance co sees it as a grocery getter. Our cars are in that limbo period too. You may be able to argue that the 1A2 is a limited production of only ~850 units over the 6 years the cars were built. Look at the production number thread for more info... Good Luck! | |

| So far Im striking out. Hagerty didnt care that it was one of 134 for 1991. Its just a Caprice to them. I tried a few other companies but so far no luck. Ill try Grundy today. Have a good day, Nick

| ANPAC should work. I was going through some old paperwork and found out I had Grundy on the Caprice, but now I have ANPAC (Chrome/Sneed) collectors insurance. | |

| Let us know if you score, as I have 'extra' wagons laying around as I can't afford $600/yr each to insure them all.

| I just got off the phone with my insurance agent. He has access to a bunch of different providers. Will update when he lets me know who will do what. | |

| I am with State Farm and have been for about 40 years.I carry full coverage on the 91 OCC and just liability on the 95 RMW and pay about 45 dollars a month.I have a very low mileage driven stipulation of 7000 miles a year on both wagons for a obvious total of 14000 miles a year.I dont even drive that much in 2 years but it really helps lower my premium and since I cant drive both wagons at the same time! |

What type of policy and value? Sorry for the slow reply, been busy, It's coupled in with my 73 Riviera policy. The value is $10,000.

It's not my daily driver or work car, this makes a difference.

| I do know that, you have to have one of those with different insurance, and you need it in a locked garage, etc. They just wouldn't even entertain it for a quote (I do have 4 wagons) | |

Ironically, my wagon is the daily driver in my fleet that allows me to have specialty insurance on three others. Won't someone at Hagerty explain what about the wagons violates their criteria? Min. age not met yet?

| According to the rep at Hagerty's, the wagons do not have the "collectability" yet. NOW, if you have a 04-96 Impala SS...... you are good to go, but the SAME car without the cool leather interior is a no-go. | |
