Ok , so with the new EBL system in the computer, I've been trying to get ol' whale started consistently, no stalls or near stalls, nor three and four times at the key till it finally but barely keeps runningcatches. So I figured I'd better start from scratch again and loaded the  start routine from the stock Calibration back into the ECM.

Forgot it was there this morning.  Oh crap!  This is gonna hurt!

Cranked it over, caught right away, stayed running, no stalls, non shuddering on it's way to stall, Nice smooooooth idle.

Damn Smart aleck  GM engineers

What makes those jerks think that with millions of dollars, state of the art diagnostic equipment and test tracks, that they can do something better than me with a laptop, a few day old donuts and a glove box full of tow truck receipts!

There is a whole science to closed-throttle and idle tuning that I tried to teach in 5 minutes to 94 Woody and fuzzcar at the wagonfest. It's best to purchase some of Greg Banish's books on the topic.

BTW, while we're on this subject, let's all take a second and realize that in general, automotive engineers do things for a reason. Don't get me wrong, some designs do not withstand the test of time (like Roadmaster door panels, the sides of the Limited seats, Caprice odometers), but other things like the stock intake and stock rear lower control arms were designed as they were for a reason.

Within my own industry, some of those things are cost, potential liability and repeat-ability.

Which Greg Banish book to you recommend?

Thanks for the reply,, Hope you and the boys enjoyed Wwagonfest in Louisville> there's a great zoo in Columbus on the way home.

It's not the fault of engineers that the public receives poorly designed products. It's engineering management.

I've seen some scary stuff get released way before it was ready because that group's manager wanted to show off how fast "he" could get a product to market. The fact that it was a plastic fuel tank that had severe and known thickness issues didn't matter.

Engineers: "We ran 10 samples and all of them had a thin wall condition of 1mm thickness in the same area. It's unsafe, it's well below standard, and it's not ready. Period. We need a quick revision of that area."

Mgr: "It'll hold gas. Ship it."

We later learned that there were cars on the LOT with fuel seeping from the sides of tanks because the crappy prototype tanks were actually better than the even more crappy production versions.
