Guess what I did this weekend?

I fried the inverter in less than a min because I unplugged it from the wire

New one en-route. HOPEFULLY it will be here before I leave on Wed......

I guess you drilled holes and "sewed" the wire thru the letters?

Exactly!!!


The inverter converts the 12 volts into whatever the wire needs to run. Problem is, I shorted out the wire because I can't solder worth a damn......

Yes, just like Buffmans, only in blue. Matt used a 2.somethig wire and I used a 1.2mm. I won't have it ready until Tuesday, so Y'all will have to wait for the fest to see it in action. (I'll PM you a pic Chris )

6 feet of wire, a 3K, 12v inverter, shrink tubing, splitter and extra male connectors cost me about $25 delivered to the house.


OK, I did the other wire and checked for continuity. Same problem.... there is a short. So I take the whole thing apart and all looks good. Damn! So I troubleshoot. Come to find out that if you use your thumb and fore finger to hold the exposed wire to the multi-meter lead with one hand, and so the same with the other, your body will mess with the readings?

Yes, I grounded myself out and screwed up the readings. My solder joints were fine. Lesson learned.

OK, update....

Seems that I can't solder as the original wires were responsible for the inverter troubles

New pre-soldered wires and new inverters solved the problem.....

Did you use any form of glue or cement to hold the wire in place?
If so, what kind?

I used super glue to "tack" it down and will use the "5 minute clear epoxy" from Autozone to complete it later. The epoxy's work time is too long. By the time it started to set, it was too late to use on other letters.

If you take off the fenders as well they would see it better in traffic............

I really like the mod but I would want mine to say Roadmaster or Impala SS on my cars......... of course sprocket the wagon would say Roadmaster and the Impala SS would say Impala SS.......
