1991 OCC. Heater core leaking (luckily to the ouside). Have it capped off at engine block and radiator. Question is does "lower heater and AC box cover" come off without having to discharge and remove the AC evaporator? Live in FL and AC is more important than heat.

That is correct Walter. Just remove the cover and the heater core is right there. Don't have to touch the AC.

Doesn’t have to be touched. If it did I could have pulled it down and recharged it for you.

There is a hidden screw at the firewall on the drip tray. Be careful, the tray can be broken at the drain if it catches on the plenum. The quick disconnect fittings on the engine bay side are not quick, or easy to remove. Use some lubricant on them, and allow it to penetrate before trying to remove them. The white part stays with the heater core.
