Roadmaster question #1 Empty
PostSubject: Roadmaster question #1   Roadmaster question #1 Icon_minitimeWed Apr 18, 2012 11:07 pm

Just got a 95 RMW and the dash "tail gate ajar" light won't go off. I've shut the door enough to feel that it is securely closed. Any ideas? Also, the gate will only open sideways. The two lights at the extreme rear on each side have buttons that only click but stay on. I can get them off only by jiggling them slightly.

Will the dash light staying on run down the battery?

Thanks.

One or both of those rear lights will kill your battery if they come on overnight. Take the bulbs out until you figure out where the problem is.

When you shut the gate, the bottom right hand corner is not getting shut / latched correctly. The gate appears shut, but it is not. Similar to a car door not getting closed tight. Push on that corner, even after it's shut, that should allow you to open either way. That is a pretty common problem. The rear gate is heavy and 17 years of shutting and hanging has worn the gate hinge.

I have had that issue with my Caprice since I got it. I good hard slamming of the gate usually takes care of it.

If you can't open the gate either way, then you KNOW its not shut tight. U might need to adjust the gate a bit to close properly and latch without slamming too hard.

If you can only open it sideways then the gate is not closing all the way. It's not latching properly, and until it does you will not be able to drop it down, and the rear lights and the light on the dash will stay on.

The dash light staying on will eventually run the battery down but not overnight. The rear hatch entry lights will run the battery down over night though. I suggest removing the bulbs until you figure out why the rear gate is not latching properly.

Not a clue.

My spidy senses sense an unjustifiably arrogant turd, who not only isn't smart enough to do any kind of introduction, but also can't close his own door hard enough for it to shut.

This is me not being impressed.

Actually you have nothing to worry about, gm developed roadmaster specific only 12v bulbs that do not run down the battery,. documented cases of the interior lights in the grab handles and the light on in the dash for 2 yrs at a time in storage evaluation test, and the batterys' never go flat,.
unfortunantely all other automobiles didn't come with these 1 of a kind non power drawing lights just roadmasters,.
So,. no worrys'

Nick
no spidey sense here, but the BS meter is in flasheroo roadagon territory,.

Does the tailgate sag at all when you first open it up? In other words,
does it drop down at all on the right side when barely opened?

I had the light problem on my rear gate - the wires to the sensor inside the door got rusted and had disconnected. I unplugged the wire - There are two places you can do this - either behind the driver side rear tail light of inside the gate - i unplugged it inside the gate.

If the gate does not open both ways it could be something else though.
