Finally have cold air!

The compressor clutch failed a few weeks after getting my wagon in February/March of '09. I put a a/c delete pulley on it and it's been that way since last August. I installed a new comp., lines, and a receiver/dryer. I finally got around to getting the system charged last week, and it's working great.
I first charged the system with nitrogen to check for leaks... found one, fixed that. Charged it again, no leaks, then I pulled a vacuum on it for about an hour, and charged it up with some new R134A. It was 91* F today and the a/c was blowing out at about 48-49*F while driving around. The car got hot in traffic though, seems the primary fan went on a permanent vacation. I love the cold air

I have to do that to my Caprice Wagon. When I bought it, it had a AC delete pulley also. Maybe this winter.

I did all this work to my 9C1 over the winter after the original compressor shaft seal started to leak. Definitely worth it, and not as hard as one might think.

Looks like you have the right equipment to do the job properly.

One tip for the future: if you connect the pump to the gauge port with the Schrader valve with a second yellow hose, the pump can evacuate any moisture-laden air from the fill hose too. Also, if you don't have a second yellow hose, keep a cap on the Schrader valve port. Those valves are designed to seal against positive pressure, not vacuum.

Nice job, and smart move using the fan when charging! Old trick that we used alot at the shops!!
