| Subject: Coming Up For Sale: 1984 Pontiac Parisienne Wagon w/under 79,000 miles Sat May 17, 2014 1:25 am | |
| Well the time has come for me to part ways with the wagon I have loved for the past four years, a 1984 Pontiac Parisienne. Purchased in 2010 with only 35,000 miles I have put less than an additional 45,000 on it since then. Now I am being offered a 1996 Buick Roadmaster (a sedan, but still a great vehicle) by a relative and since I live in an apartment with limited parking I am looking for a good home for my wagon. I won't put forth any illusions; this is not a perfect car. If you look at my posting history you will see my first post was me trying to determine if I should fix my wagon or let it go. In the end I did fix it and got it back on the road. I ordered a rebuilt Rochester Quadrajet and had it installed and also had the brakes fixed to make it safe for travel. It remains a thirty year old car, however, and therefore I probably don't need to tell you that it has its quirks. As much as I have loved and enjoyed this car, I also understand basic economics. I don't intend to place a price on my nostalgia for this machine on top of any reasonable offer. It would be easy to put the car up on eBay with no reserve and sell it to the highest bidder, but I want to know that it will go to someone who will truly look after it and take the time and effort to ensure it remains a great vehicle. A little attention from a new owner and this car will be great once again (right now I would classify it as 'good'). I will attempt to describe the car honestly and completely. Please feel free to ask questions and I will answer them as best as possible. If you would like to make an offer, please PM me. I reside in Richmond, Virginia, and am more than happy to arrange for showing the car to anyone interested. I will post photos sometime in the next few days (my work and school schedule are incredibly busy right now, forgive the delay). The good:
- Low mileage (just over 78,000)
- Newly rebuilt carburetor
- Newly serviced brakes
- Only minor surface rust
- Seats and carpets in good condition
- All original and unmodified
- Transmission shifts fine and gets up to speed without trouble
- Whoever designed the power steering for this car deserves an award; I think I will miss this most of all
- Seating for eight!
The not so good:
- Driver's power seat coupling broken and needs replacing (I have the part to replace it, just haven't had the time)
- Some of the interior weatherstripping at the bottom of the passenger front window needs replacing (doesn't leak due to being on the inside, but still a minor annoyance in my mind
- Dash is cracked from exposure to the sun, just like me after a week at the beach
- No cruise control
- No power antenna (stuck in the up position, however)
- No action on the window washer function (wipers work perfectly, however)
- No air conditioning. Had it charged with R12 when I got it and it worked, but I suspect the compressor has gone bad in the interim
- The wood paneling is chipped and flaking in some points, especially around the wheel arches. This seems to be typical for Pontiacs and Chevrolets of this vintage, at least as compared to Buicks and Oldsmobiles
- The headliner is sagging on the front passenger side
The worrisome:
- Either the radiator of one of the hoses has a slow leak and therefore requires refilling with fluid about once every week or two
- Engine performance improved with the rebuilt carb, but it still idles slightly rough. Spark plugs and wires were changed with the carb, and I wonder if it might be related to the timing or the distributor. The car IS quite driveable and it may only be a quirk of a thirty year old vehicle
All parts are present and accounted for, save for the plastic molding around the rear bumper that would fill the gap between the bumper and body of the car (it seems this is missing on pretty much every wagon from this era, at least the ones I have seen). The engine is the standard Chevy 305 V8. The radio is the original Delco+tape deck that came with the car. Thanks for taking the time to read this; please post questions if you have them and I will answer as best I can. Here is a photo of the wagon at a football game at FedEx field in 2012: | |

| I think a decent price would be around $750. Offers will be considered. | |
