Drove to Roady Wagon to Houston yesterday with Dad, Eddie and Tuck to go parts-hunting....and had a great trip!
We ate lunch at El Real Resteraunt, which was once a big single-screen movie theater, GREAT PUFFY PORK TACOS!!
Then went the new Delorean factory and we all drooled over two "brand new" DMC's in the showroom.
Finished the trip with a new Impala SS wheel that will become my spare for the Virginia trip.
We had a great day, saw some cool cars, got some neat pics on the trip, and drove the 437-miles in the Roadmaster in 100-degree heat with no car issues! Ran cool and smooth.
My new Police Pursuit tires do seem a bit harder than the old Goodyears, you feel and hear the highway expansion strips and potholes more, but on smooth highway, the car is still smooth.
One minor concern, I only averaged 20.4 mpg on the trip. Not as good as I hoped, but we did see quite a bit of city driving and stop-and-go...so hopefully on a straight highway trip, and after a tune-up, I can get it back into the mid-to-high 20's like in the past. We'll see!
Enjoy the pics!

El Real Houston, Good Stuff!
DMC INC
Roady-Tripping! Giddings Texas, between Austin and Houston
I love this old car.
Impala SS wheel. Not perfect but pretty good. Tire is garbage, but no big deal. If anyone needs an SS wheel, I got this at Apache Auto Salvage on Cullen in S. Houston, and they have one more left. $65. A little steep but these are getting harder to find.

Mike, I have been traveling since February pulling the Airstream with the OCC. I have not kept up with your posts as well as before. My question is: When did you get another Roadmaster? Or did you get your old one back? We have put 9000 miles on ours on this trip. I replaced a leaky water pump in San Diego and when I got back to Oregon a module in the distributor quit. So did the car. I had to have it towed to a shop on Saturday afternoon. Got fixed on Monday. All is good now. I bought our OCC with 51K and we just turned over 102K. We are still living in the Airstream, looking forward to heading back to Baja California in October. Dick aka Colonel

Hi Dick! I have been reading your updates on the wagon forum. Sounds like an awesome trip, and hope to see more pics from you. You were not kidding when you said you bought that Olds to tow with! Wow! Glad other than some small issues that it's earning it's keep!
As for my Roadmaster, I was able to get my original car back this past spring. It's in pretty much the same shape I sold it in, and he put about 17K miles on it over the two years my friend had it. I'm really glad to have it back, and it's never leaving again!!
Take care!
-Mike

Awesome pics! Hope the trip keeps going awesome. I won't lie, when I saw the DMC, and your wagon, only one thing came to mind.
That said, it only comes to mind because of my trip to the beach this year. My brother said it as we went past a Mustang on the highway in Delaware.

are the new De Lorean's made out of Stainless Steel body parts too?

The "New" DeLorean's are made using NOS parts from the original factory and used parts. The new DeLorean company purchased all of the spare parts inventory from when the original company collapsed. This included enough parts to build several cars. In order to title the vehicles they buy up older cars that are in need of restoration and rebuild them using a mix of NOS parts and the original frame. So yes they are made from Stainless Steel. The "New" cars are supposed to have several improvements fixing many of the issues that the original design had.

Yes, with all original parts bought from the factory back in the 80's. The factory had parts on had to build hundreds more cars...the demand was just not there for them, so when the factory closed, everything was sold off, and the vast bulk of those parts are now in Houston at DMC INC, and also their California location. I think the California location just does repairs and resto work, while the Houston location will build the new cars to order, from NOS parts.
"More recently, the company have begun selling "new" completely remanufactured DeLoreans, using 80% new-old-stock parts, and 20% new parts. Production is limited to about 20 cars per year, and the base retail price is about $57,500. These cars are built with new stainless steel frames, modern features such as remote keyless entry as standard, with optional extras such as sat-nav, a high powered engine, enhanced audio equipment and heated seats, to name but a few."
