| I received a bearing rebuild kit for Christmas giving me the gump'shun to by the 4.56 gears I have been wanting. I also bought mtrhead79's old wagon axle so I have one to build. Step one (done): strip the assembly check axles (they look good) Step two: paint or powdercoat the axle (let the jokes begin) - Getting a price on Monday for powdercoating Step three: brakes..... Ok going one of two directions. Depending what I can find parts, I would like to do this: http://www.goldsswagon.com/WagonDiscs/WagonDiscs.htmBut if I cannot find 9C1 or Impala SS brakes for the rear I will keep the rear drum brakes for now and just rebuild. More to come! | |

| Located a set of calipers, backing plates, etc. Hope to get them on Wednesday. Ordered the control arm bushings. So with those the project is under way. | |

| So John went with me last night as we picked up the backing plates, calipers and such. I stopped at the shop that built my motor and they can open up the backing plates for me. Maybe I will get to this tomorrow. Powder coating quotes are coming in high so I believe I will be paining it. | |

| I dropped the axle housing off at my machine shop and he is opening up the backing plates to fit the wagon axle.
- Ordered the e-brake boot and SS brake lines from Bill Harper - Got bushings for rear and removed bushing from axle and upper control arms. - Found a local powder coated who will do the axle for a reasonable price - BONUS!! - Calipers from first source were junk - pistons are shot - Ordered a set from ebay used they are in good shape and apart and cleaned up for coating - Ordered all hardware, caliper re-build kits, new e brake cables, etc - Ordered Stealth Brake Bolt kit
I looked at getting UMI instant center brackets for the rear. Anyone every install these?
As soon as my machine shop gets the backing plates done I can start mocking every thing up and get it all ready for the powdercoater.

| Not sure if you are still wanting to look into powder coating the axle. Check your local prison. I have one near me that will powder coat just about anything! The prison will clean it all up, and prep it for powder coating. They do an excellent job and will do it just above the cost of the material.
Give it a shot, could never hurt.
Our local prison also has a "prison shop" that you can buy all sort of crud from. Fresh baked bread, hay, paintings.....pretty cool actually. It helps the prisoners with some extra spending cash and also helps them find a trade.

| It does not look like PA prisons do this. I did find a local guy who will do it within my budget. | |

| First off thank you to 200OZ, this job would have taken me much much longer if I could have done it at all. Sorry about the powder coat issues, that cost you the first drive. I owe you huge!
Thursday evening we did the tear out. Friday we had it all back together and just needed to fill the brake fluid. We spliced in the rear portion of the brake hard line from under the firewall all the way back. They were in rough shape on top of the frame. We used that soft line for the brakes (alloy). Worked like a charm with Mike flaring the ends. Saturday am we installed he stealth bolt/metering rod mod and started to gravity bleed the system. Snuck to two of my local yards and pulled so minivan parts for Mike.
As we attempted to bleed the system we quick discovered an issue. My powder coat guy put powder on the soft hose mating surface. Long story short, we could not use my coated calipers. Also my sway bar mounts hit the exhaust so I had to trim and touch up right some paint. But we got her done!
Conclusion: The brakes work amazing, car stops flatter than ever, Corners flatter, e-brake works better and most importantly 1st gear & reverse starts are MUCH easier on the clutch.

| Well it sucked not being able to use the sweet lookin' red calipers on the car, but thankfully Tim is well stocked with extra parts so we could get the job done.... Almost anyway. I missed the ride/drive by about 2 hours . Oh well, it was good hanging out with Tim for a few days playing with the wagon. And I learned that you could make a "bubble" flare with std. double flare tools, who knew.... Apparently some hillbillies on Youtube. Thanks for everything bro. | |
