So..... when dropping the fuel tank in a 94 RMW, do you guys drop the heat shield and undo the screws that attach the fillier neck to the body inside the fuel door, or do you seperate the tank from the rubber hose between the filler neck and the tank? If you disconnect the hose, whats the best way to do that?

I seperate rubber hose from tank,. undo clamp,. use big channel locks to get the hose to turn slightly to break the seal,. or stuff a screwdriver in beside the hose, and try and get a bit of WD 40 in there,.so it slips off,.
I,m kinda lazy,. so i loosen off the lines up top from the body,.and lower the tank down on a floor jack,. pop the sender out,. and put a pump in, with it all balanced on the jack,.
make sure the hose is well lubed up and mebbe a new clamp before install,.

I pretty much do the same as Nick, with the exception of find a small board to put on the jack. It helps support the weight of the tank better as it can get pretty wobbly when there is still a lot of gas in the tank.

Although it can be done with one person, it's better is to have a buddy help you.

Thats what im planning on doing, tank is almost empty. I waited till the low fuel light came, then drove it around a bit more after that. Small board between tank and floor jack. The metal retaining rod above the rear axle has been removed to drop the fuel lines. Front and rear tank strap bolts have been loosened, what ones do you remove first?

I don't bother taking the heat shields off anymore, you don't NEED to, but it does make it a little easier. on the two front bolts.

Yes, as a matter of fact I did. Good write up, but I am also doing this my self and from the tips given above I have learned that you dont need to take the tank off of the jack. So  i was wondering if a lazy person may have any more tips on dropping the tank. How about you any tips for doing it SOLO?

The more curse words you can string together, the easier it gets.
