| Ok guys. I am looking at purchasing a small camping trailer for the family. I currently have a class I hitch and was looking for a larger hitch so that I could tow it. I found a couple of people on the forum that are currently making hitches in batches and then selling them. I like the idea, but in years to come I am worried that said people will stop making them and they will become hard to find again.
I have made some contact with Uhaul and they want my wagon for a couple of days so that they can make a custom hitch and then have the blue prints on file so that they can make more in the future if needed. They have a R & D department located 30 miles from my house.
This has been "minimal" contact so far. I will keep you updated.
All of this, of course, is contingent on the wife's approval of purchasing the camping trailer.

| UHaul use to make them for our cars...but I seem to recall seeing a couple posts stating that they no longer have them. It would be nice if their R&D center would autocad the design and make it available across the US/Canada to their installation centers. | |

| If you're in Arizona, they've been offering that for years - but no one is close enough to their center.
Please do it, even if you don't get the trailer. The wagon community would be thankful. |

| While doing a little more research and looking at some other options I came across Reese hitches web site and they list a Draw-Tite hitch they say will fit. Anyone know if it is the truth? Reviews on Amazon say that it will fit the Roadmaster Sedan perfectly. Nothing was mentioned about a wagon. I know how websites arent always 100% accurate. Part number : 75146 Max-Frame Reciever This is the link to the page I was looking at. They have several dealers in my area that said they have it on the shelves....but again....dang internet. I wont be able to call until tomorrow. http://www.reeseprod.com/products/trailer-hitches/class-iii-iv-receiver/max-frame-receiver/WfzaCtfZMf0hoaEk3ihHPT3t8HbOTx1u | |

That was my initial thought. I am going to place a request to get a quote and then talk to them in person. First of all my wagon is our DD and it will be very difficult to lend her to someone for 2-3 days. I can probably build some sort of "Mickey Mouse" hitch in a couple of hours myself. Did they have a massive file fire that only burned the information for our wagons? Im going to take take my first bit of info with a grain of salt. I will see how this pans out.

| If it fits a sedan, it won't fit a wagon. It can be modified to work, but it won't fit out of the box.
No, U-haul hitches aren't "the holy grail." They used to be re-branded Drawtite hitches back in the day when my parents managed U-haul locations.
But they're available everywhere. |

| It took a little bit, but U-Haul finally got back to me....literally 5 minutes ago. Thought i would pass this info along. I was a little dissapointed with not being able to get one mocked up for free.... "April Jurado 10:46 AM Hello, Hitch # for a 1992 Chevrolet Caprice Wagon is 12041HC retail price 269.95. If you would like this hitch please contact your local uhaul center and they can order this hitch for you. Have a good day."I have done a very quick search for that part # and have not come up with anything. I will call some locations tomorrow and see if anyone has them in stock. | |

| Meanwhile, I have taken off my class 1 hitch and found that it is mounted to 2 inch thick walled square tubing. I will be cutting the class 1 hitch receiver off and welding in a class 3 hitch receiver in its place.
The trailer I will be pulling weighs roughly 1100 lbs with a tongue weight well under 500 lbs. It needs a 2" ball and I am not comfortable with placing an adapter to make it work. The changes will cost me $20 and a couple of hours of my time.
This will do for now. | |
