| Hello all...
I'm having an issue with my '95 Caprice hvac system. No matter what settting I put it on (a/c, max, defrost, heat, etc...) the only place air will blow out is the vents. Does that sound like the whole hvac control panel will need replaced, or is there some kind of valve I could replace? This just happened out of nowhere, and it's kinda a pain not having a defrost. Anyone else have any experience with this issue, and/or know of a solution? Thanx... | |

| It may be a vacuum motor on the airbox. The flaps inside the box are actuated by vacuum. It could also be a number of other problems...disconnected linkage, or something blocking the flap from moving. You will have to troubleshoot it, and I would suggest getting a copy of the FSM for reference. It is possible that the head unit is not working properly as well, but if you do not trouble shoot it correctly, you may end up replacing good expensive parts. | |

| I have a FSM...haven't looked closely enough to tell if it troubleshoots like that, guess I need to do that. I'm just wondering, does the vacuum come from the intake. I had to splice in longer line when I just installed my fuel rail covers, could a leak cause my system to not work properly? I'm not sure what the situation is. I took out my blower motor today (was loud), and cleaned out a huge ball of fuzzy crap and now it's not loud. The issue I'm having came before that, so I'm sure that's not the cause of it. But, at least, now it's not loud when I'm set on high and it's blowing out of the vents. I've had enought b-body cars to know it's not good to start replacing expensive parts before knowing the root of the problem....I guess, I'll check the FSM. Tomorrow probably, as 127 proof of Booker Noe has been good enough to me where I can at least type, but not gonna even try and read and comprehend...so tonight isn't an option... Edit: Ok, it's the next morning and I've read the FSM. After doing a bit of reading, I found out the vacuum does indeed come from the line off the side of the intake, which I had to extend due to harness re-location during fuel rail cover install. Looks like some idiot who did the work installed the check valve bass-ackward. So, I removed the valve, turned it around, re-installed it, and now I'm in buisness. Looks like those 3 books that came with my wagon really do have a use, lol...Thanx Fred for the response, and reminding me about the simple things.... | |
