PostSubject: new paint job   new paint job Icon_minitimeFri Apr 01, 2016 11:23 am

just got my car painted and wanted to share some pics. got it done at Maaco, it has some imperfections, but not bad for $900. i just want to figure out what to do for the trim around the wood, it looks horrible now. i was thinking about painting it dark brown, anything anybody can suggest?

Looks great! How much did it Maaco charge you? Is it worth the price? Also, I love those wheels!

Thanks! It was $900, totally worth it. It won't win any car shows, but it looks a lot better than it did.

That's awesome! When I buy my wagon I might give Maaco a try then. When I get my Roadmaster I think I might paint it orange because orange is my favorite color. I do know I want to leave the wood on the car for sure. Do they do wheel painting too?

Not sure, but I bet they would paint anything for the right price.

That color is very very nice.

You can strip and polish the trim. It's stainless steel underneath I think. Would look great with the wheels, too!

I also got one more question. How long did the paint job take? Hours, days?

I agree - that does look nice.  As for the trim pieces, have you thought about stripping them and going with the polished aluminum?  I've done that to my RMW like a few others and it looks really nice:

I was originally thinking about painting them, but I did see a post with the polished trim and they look great. I just worry about breaking the plastic clips.

I've done it on two wagons and haven't had much trouble with the clips breaking. I was a little surprised myself but they seem to hold up well.

I basically followed this procedure:
http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/21-wagons/227346-remove-trim-striping-polishing.html

I found accidentally the first time that if I used something like sandpaper or maybe a dremel to help the coating come off leaves the aluminum with a brushed look instead of a mirror polish. This wasn't that bad, but the second time I only used the stripper and paper towels to get the factory coating off. This left things ready for a bit of metal polish and they were more shiny.

Hope that helps. It can take a full afternoon to do it, but it looks good when you're done.

Post some pics when you get it done, I bet the polished look will be great with that color.
God luck!

alright, i did the drivers side and the rear gate. it looks great! at one point someone painted the trim so i needed to apply the stripper 3x's. i also used aluminum polish that you apply by hand.

Trim's coming along nicely, looks good with that darker green color too.
