Water drip ater pump install Empty
PostSubject: Water drip ater pump install   Water drip ater pump install Icon_minitimeSun Jul 17, 2016 9:37 pm

After installing the pump, hoses, shrouded fan and radiator unit, i filled the radiator to test for leaks. New gaskets were used on the pump.

There was immediately was a steady drip of water coming from the passenger side . It was coming down the lower hose. I re-tightened the clamp, and it had no effect. So the leak is from above that point. This is a static cold engine, cap off. no pressure in the system.

What are some of the possibilities causing the leak?. Where are the points I did not seal properly?

Did you put sealer on the pump bolts? They go directly in the water jacket, and must be sealed.

I replaced the paper gaskets with rubbery ones and put used sealant on both the surfaces and bolts. No leaks to report.

Is it leaking out of the thermostat housing?

It was at the passenger side of the pump. Note prior post.

I have a custom chrome thermostat housing that has leaked in the past, Better quality gasket and sealant cured that.

When I install SBC water pumps I just use the paper gaskets with no sealant and have not had an issue.

I also wire brushed the surfaces to make sure nothing from the past was on them.
