| Hello, Had my electra tuned up recently... gah. the bill was a little steep at the end. Then again, they also had to do new wheel studs for it and some exhaust work that I didn't really want to do. Nonetheless. Seems like though the engine tuned up a lot nicer, my exhaust smells pretty rich, and i've got a misfire on cyl #7. Mechanic thinks the valve is stuck. Plugs are new. Dizzy is new. Spark is good. Carb is good. Ideas? | |

| So I think I found the problem. Q jet float bowl leaked and sank or something like that, and will readily flood the engine, especially at low rpms with a load, which the lock up clutch transmission is good at administering, and the super rich mixture started fouling the plugs.
So last night, 500 miles from home, I did a full spark plug change on the beastie in the holiday inn parking lot after the misfire got so bad that the car was undrivable, with my cell phone as a flashlight and a couple of duralast socket extensions and u joints. Man, those plugs were suuuuuuuuper duper easy to get to. It was so eassssy.
I don't care what people say about rochester Q jets. If anyone wants that p.o.s. I'll give it to you for shipping price only and you can rebuild it.
I'm getting an Edlebrock. | |

| 160000 miles, original 1987. I'm just not going to bother rebuilding it, I'm getting a better carb. Also, I'm ticked off. Hehheh | |

| drove 500 miles with the buiack sputtering, misfiring, bogging down like a tired ol' thing, changed the spark plugs halfway through to make her run semi-right again and made it home just as the misfiring started hitting hard. Poor thing. Went through 24 spark plugs this trip. Turned carb cleaner lid upside down on the last run and they did last ~100 miles longer. | |

| If you get a 4 barrel manifold, you can put Fitech TBI fuel injection on it...put the 455 in it first. Injection system is about $799 (for up to 400 HP). You can run a Walbro 255 pump. | |
