Water pump driveshaft play Empty
PostSubject: Water pump driveshaft play   Water pump driveshaft play Icon_minitimeTue Sep 27, 2016 11:57 pm

Hi all,
I'm in the process of replacing my water pump.
With the old pump removed, there is noticeable play (maybe 0.01" - 0.20") in the end of the water pump driveshaft when I push on it radially.
Since the front support bearing (inside that water pump) is currently absent, I would think this play is to be expected & isn't cause for concern.
Car has 73000 miles, so I assume the rear bearing should still be OK.
Am I wrong here? Do I need to replace the bearing on the water pump drive shaft behind the drive gear?

Thanks.
