Hi all,

I've seen doing the swap humorously referenced on this site in another post. In all seriousness, how hard is is to do? 4l80e's were put in OBDI vehicles, so it's not like they were only used with the more advanced controls of '96 and later vehicles. Assuming one is capable of doing the driveshaft and trans crossmember modifications necessary, what electrical changes are necessary to make the stock ecm run one of these? My car currently lacks 2nd and 4th gear, and I'm not really keen on 4l60e's anyway. I've seen too many of them give up too many times (admittedly in much higher powered cars), so if I could simply sidestep that dumbness I would like to.

It has / Can be done.  (Well anything can be done with enough $$$$)

Search the ISSF forum and you come across a sticky post on the subject.

ISSF POST.

It looks to be pretty straight forward. There are members here who have done it. I am seriously thinking about it if / when my transmission goes.

I'm sure Jay will chime in, but electrical changes should be minimal. He did tell that you can now reprogram the PCM to control the 4L80E, so at that point you'd really just need to repin the transmission connector to match the 4L80E's connector. The wiring changes are well documented thanks to the LS crowd.
