My new project, C10 Shop Truck Empty
PostSubject: My new project, C10 Shop Truck    My new project, C10 Shop Truck Icon_minitimeMon Mar 20, 2017 10:24 pm

Haven't been on in awhile but checking in to share my new, old project. I owned this 1977 C10 about 4 years ago but ended up selling it since I had another Wagon project at the time.
Here's the story, I bought it from a friend that got it from original owner's estate because the grandkids were going to trash it. He sold it to me and I put a set of Corvette style rally wheels. It had a nice worn, used look about it with plenty of character. I polished up the paint that was left and put some vinyl lettering on the door. Plan was to use as template to hand paint letters but I got into rebuilding the fuel system and just left them. Got it running good and took it to Crusin' the Coast for a week and put 400+ miles on it. Then I bought my RM wagon, working on a '83 Caprice wagon and quit my job! All in about a 3 week span, so I sold my C10 to a friend's son.
Friend's son took about 2 months to tear up the little 305 and put a 454 out of a 90's Suburban in it. He pretty much put a giant, Peanut port headed boat anchor in the truck but in 5 months he managed to tear it up too. Fast forward to March 13th,2017 and a memory pops up on my Facebook time line of my old truck. I share and mention I miss my truck and he comments back on it telling me his plans while he has a baby on the way and I heard the truck was way out in a field. Not to prey on the weak but he's newly married, baby coming due and he's talking about twin turbo big block and dad's telling me how he helps out because they are having it tough. I make a offer to buy it back and give him his boat anchor back when I pull it. Took him about 4 hours but he took my offer. Exactly 4 years after the first time I bought it, I bought it back.
First 2 pictures are first time I owned it.

Nice old truck. I looked for one for about a year. Folks price them higher than Muscle Cars so I gave up.

I had a '66 fleetside, it was one of my favorites. I tell my wife I'm partial to old, raggedy, beat up trucks like my ole "May Pop Tire Shop truck because I can relate! Smile

There's something about a man and his old truck,.especially when its a diesel,.this old thing has carried me all across canada and the usa,it's been in some of the coldest inhospitable remote places in the north west of this country,.pretty close to 300,000 miles on it,. (470,000 kms)

I got the blown motor out and the 283 I had sitting around in it. Still have to hook it up and this is my 6 day work week but I may get it done Sunday, we will see.
Not sure how I got 2 pictures sideways? Sorry

Had everything going about 8 weeks ago but never noticed the pry marks and excess rtv silicon on the timing chain cover where it was pryed on when the previous owner of the engine did the cam, lifters and timing chain on it. I have new gasket for it, just need to put it on. Other things took priority over it lately but now time to get back on it soon. The motor seems to run good from the 10 minutes I ran it until I noticed the oil.

1tireman, cool shop truck ya got there! Judging by your avatar, I'm guessing you have a thing for dark red vehicles. cyclops I see you aren't that far from me. About an hour to an hour and a half away, depending on New Orleans traffic, and dodging bullets on I-10. I hope you're bringing your rides to CTC in October. I would love to check them out in person! Cool
