1992 Olds Custom Cruiser Wagons -- 4 of them

I love the split grille Olds -- more aesthetically pleasing to my eye than the RMW or Caprice. No argument that the Roadmasters have the amenities or that Chevys have the following, but for uniqueness and rarity you can't beat the OCC. The Vista Roof that can't be called a vista roof anymore, but that only adds to these vehicles' charm. Three of these wagons need work -- are basically probably only donor cars and many spare parts. But you learned people in this forum understand the value of the ground effects panels, emblems, grilles, and the stupid little fitting like the black screw that holds the spare tire cover on -- broken and then irreplaceable. Engines run great -- all 5.7 liter, 2 of the three transmissions won't upshift into third - we have all been bitten by this one. My fourth OCC was just acquired -- 140K sweet body. Undercarriage so much better than I expected in a northeast car -- guessing it was garaged winters. I planned to remove the Automatic Temperature Control from one car and install in this one this summer, and put in the premium cassette -- sorry no CD, and high performance speakers into it from another. However, I find my health is failing me rapidly and I must divest myself of these cars -- only a week ago I placed an ad looking for a spare grille. I have always felt an obsessive desire to preserve these vehicles; probably rooted in the Custom Cruiser glory days of the forward facing three seat clam shell wagons - most are nothing but memories now. My family had a 1972 yellow (bamboo) with saddle interior and woodgrain! I am located in Rhode Island, if you have any ideas about collectors interested, or wishing purchase please let me know. I will be happy to discuss the vehicles honestly and forward photographs. Hi Bill!  Welcome to the forum.  You might have cornered the Rhode Island market on OCC parts cars.  Looking forward to seeing pictures of the one that runs, moves, and stops.

Here are some pictures of Bill's 1992 OCC wagon (the one that runs and moves).  There are three other parts cars to go with it.  Looks nice from the outside, with a donk on the passenger front fender that looks like it might be easy to pop out.

Bill: you just need to make a few more posts and then we can open a thread in the For Sale section, which is where this belongs if you want to sell the lot.

I'll be in RI in a few weeks, so I'll try to stop by and take a look.

I really love the Olds wagons. Only sold mine so I could get my '96 Roady back. I will have another one eventually with a little luck!

But, maybe I could sneak one past her.

A paintless dent removal guy might be able to take the dent out. It is a lot cheaper than trying to fix it by pounding it out, and repainting.

The only other way that is inexpensive is to swap the fender. It is not difficult except for getting one the same the color. A junk yard fender might even be cheaper than a paintless dent guy. You can use a Caprice fender, and drill a couple of holes for the trim. The little grommets for the trim are also near impossible to get, so you must reuse the ones from the original panel.

BTW they only made about 4300 of the 92s.

Bill reports that he has two spare fenders in blue. So, you could either go the PDR route, or swap it out with one of the spares in the same color.

There are a total of four wagons. All 1992 with many straight body panels. Good lower panels. Bumper covers. These are becoming so rare I loathe to scrap them. Besides the one pictured, another has a great shifting 700R4, changed out a couple years ago. Three are blue, one white. Swapping a better fender might obviate the need for painting -- a big cost savings. I have owners manuals a Factory service manual. Spare TBI intake with 5.7L decal. Three Grille emblems on NOS the others near new in appearance. I know there is a following the these vehicles. Not looking to make a killing only recoup at least part of my investment. I wish I had someplace to store them. I already have two cars, and am keeping one at my dad's house.

Fred: We could load as many parts as possible into the one that runs, and I could drive it to Tampa. I go there for work 2 or 3 times a year.

As much as I like the idea, I still do not have any place to keep another one.
