Lower rad hoses? Empty
PostSubject: Lower rad hoses?    Lower rad hoses? Icon_minitimeMon May 27, 2019 9:05 pm

So our wagon has the heavy duty cooling system, which means the lower rad hose is several pieces. There is the hose from the rad to the metal tube, then the hose from the engine to the metal tube. I have found that some places list a lower hose that is cut to fit and for either standard or heavy duty cooling. Do you guys know if the cut to fit hose actually fits properly and then has enough extra for the short piece? Or should I just buy a second lower hose for the heavy duty cooling and cut the section I need out of it? I can get a foot long section of hose that's correct for the short section but it's twice the price of the molded hoses!

I also need to replace the other hoses for the heater, coolant tank and what ever else, should I get anything special for them? Are there specific molded hoses or just standard cut to fit stuff?

Thanks,

Both my Caddy and Caprice have standard cooling. The one piece hose fits perfectly.

So I ended up ordering the correct hoses and got a slight surprise when I opened the box today!

The small section of hose that goes from the engine to the pipe was listed as only available in a one foot piece, which is fine I can cut it to fit...

This is what I got:

Three feet of hose to fit a six inch space! At least I'll have plenty for the rest of the cars life!

I finally got to draining the coolant and changing the hoses today. I ordered all the small hoses as well as the radiator hoses. Looks like the old hoses were all original to the car!
I didn't realize that the hose to the reservoir tank from the tee and one to the heater are permanently attached to the plastic fittings. So I left those two alone for now but changed out the rest. A bit of fun getting the hoses in and out of the metal clamps/hold downs. The spring clamps on the heater core are a bitch to remove and reinstall!

The old coolant was nasty! The reservoir had what looked like mud in it!

Got the tank flushed out pretty good and the outside cleaned up decently too.
