9C1 silicone hoses Empty
PostSubject: 9C1 silicone hoses   9C1 silicone hoses Icon_minitimeThu Jun 19, 2014 2:52 am

Quick question on these- I got a used set, minus the lower radiator hose. There's some scale inside, and I'm thinking about putting them in a tray and letting them soak in vinegar overnight to remove it- any better suggestions?

Also I know I'm supposed to use good stainless steel clamps without the screw drive on them for these hoses (though previous owner clearly used those style clamps before) - any particular recommendations (or disrecommendations) would be appreciated.

Now... to find a lower rad hose for a reasonable price Smile

I would use the original style spring clamps, they are designed to expand and contract when the hose heats up and cools. The screw style do not expand with the hose and eventually ruin it.

Do NOT use rubber hose spring clamps on the silicone hoses. They will slip off.
Do not use standard worm clamps, they will damage the silicone hoses.

Use the recommended lined clamps.

Thanks for the info- I'll be sure to get the right hose clamps for this.

Upon close inspection after cleaning, I notice that the one radiator hose I have seems to be deteriorating inside- the outer layer of the material seems to be flaking off, which is strange to me as I expected this silicone material to be pretty much impervious to coolant. Well, I guess 20 years will do that. So, I probably won't use that hose anyway, but the others seem to not be suffering from this issue.
