Okay, so this year was a little different. In the past we had the Flamingo awards, but 2 years ago I was approached by 1993 Roadyman that he wanted to do the trophies. Never one to keep a talented artist down, I readily agreed. We had discussions over Covid on a number of ideas, and while last year we had a WF, the awards were suspened for the year. due to stuff going on.
Anyway Jarrod came up with some AWESOME trophies!
Back in Sept. Jarrod and I got together and came up with 6 categories:
1. Peoples Choice - voted on at the awards ceremony and 'must be present to win'
2. Longest Migration - Who drove the farthest to get there
3. The Larry Lype memorial Spirit Award - Who most embodied the most wagon spirit this year
4. Best Engine Bay - self explantory
5. Best Mod - Best modification (open to interpretation by the judges apparently).
6. Most Body Damage - self explantory
So.....we had a panel of 3 guest judges, two of which are former wagon owners. As none currently had any 'skin in the game' they were deemed impartial and were hired on the spot as worked for beer
I will include some pics here in following comments, but here are the winners for 2022!
1. Peoples Choice - None other than Brokecello for his DGGM RMW that he swore would never sell, sold it, then bought it back cuz you know, wagon love
2. Longest Migration - Yacht Driver! Clocking in at around 1290ish miles I think he said, barely edgining out SWTSS by less than a hundred I believe.
3. The LL Spirit Award - Named in honor of the long term wagon afficinado Larry Lype, goes to Isurf from NJ, who 20 miles into the trek, had a blowout, then a semi blow the wagon off the jack trashing it, going home and getting in his wife's Jeep, then replacing an axle bearing and STILL making the show field before noon on show day. That's commitment to the wagon life folks! Bravo!
4. Best Engine Bay - Well since Brokecello was the only one to open his hood......yeah the rest of us were embarassed in comparisson. He gave some of the Impala guys next to us a run for their money. It's an amazing set up and you can eat off it.
5. Best Mod - It was close but the funny part was both mods were on the same car! Congrats to Buickman1 and his Olds CC (why isn't he Oldsman??) Anyway it was a split between is newish Lincoln LS Seats and the electrical tape holding up his marker lights and trim (judge 3 said they couldn't decide between the two!)
6. Most body damage - In 10 years of WF FL, as the host, I've always tried to avoid winning as it seems self serving ( almost won baldest tires one year), but this year there was no denying my smashed tailgate and crunched front fender (I was supposed to get a new tailgate delivered, but supply chain issues....) so yeah Sprocket finally got one.
Was great to see everyone and honorable mention to Rev Bob and his lovely bride, showing up in an ULTRA clean 96 WB$ White roday with ROH wheels and being the ORIGINAL OWNERS. When they pulled in I looked at Mark 96 Roady and said, 'Hey look your car made it!" it was almost a clone.
Also kudos for Mark and SWTSS for brining their Fleetwoods as there wagons were in the shop, and JaySS for making the trek down. Krzidiamond for hooking up the hotel group rate and makine it down with his girl to hang for the weekend. Also met some new folks that may join our tribe of merriment.
Far from the biggest, but was a good group as always and fun times were had.
