Door Hinge Roller Pin Empty

Front door held open by a roller on pin pushing a spring tensioned lever. GM made quality roller out of steel but the nylon bushing was wearing out. Purchased a repair kit on ebay ($48 with free shipping) and installed into a salvage yard hinge. Excellent product made of stainless steel right here in the USA. Says it fits 91-96 Caprice and Raodmaster. Mine's a 91 Custom Cruiser. Link for anyone interested: ebay.com/itm/314066292940

As anyone who has done this knows, the door has to be loosened and supported to get the hinge out of the car. The spring is a bear. I purchased a cheapo compressor but needed to assist with bench vise and c clamp. Not a critical item but who wants a squeal when opening door?

Is this the fix for a door that drops a little when opened sideways or is that another part?

Thanks

I believe dropping sounds more like the hinge itself is worn. This part is the door stop.

Is it not possible to replace these without removing the doors?

The FSM calls for removal of the door and front fender. However, you can work the bottom hinge out of the car by raising a loosened door. This will require a second pair of hands, a trolley jack for support and will result in some paint marks and possible metal deformation. Have an 11mm swivel socket on a 1/4 inch drive extension. Because of the hinge spring tension and limited clearances I wouldn't try it in the car.

I've already removed the hinge spring with the tool you can buy at the auto parts store. Worked like a champ.
