I found a dark blue (MAB ?) '95 Caprice wagon in Henrietta, NY. for $800.00. The under side is really rusted, and the frame is rotted pretty good too. Looks like I'll have to remove the driver side lower control arm frame mount to patch the frame the right way. Hopefully I'll get a couple of years out of it. Other than the rusty undersides the car is in nice shape, and everything works the way it should... except for the wig-wags on the head lights. I'll have to fix those and have some fun with them. It's raining pretty good here so I'll have to get pics later, maybe tonight if it lets up a little. I ended up getting the car for $650.00, I don't think too bad.... I'll do a write up on frame repair in the next few weeks.

Mike, check the frame just before the rear wheels and underneath the rear door.

That's were the rot is on the frame, left side, just in front of the rear tire, but there is rust every were else under there. The good thing is I can't see the rear seat springs from under the car .
On to the pics. Sorry they are so bad, I'll try again in a few days.

I thought the same thing. Nice looking wagon, too bad its such a rust bucket. In a few years you should have a good parts harvest.

That is what is about to happen to my Caprice soon. Tints, front and rear strobes, wood coming off...

Wow, if I took pictures like that, I wonder if my wagon would look as nice... Seriously, looks like your black wagon will be saved from the snow and salt!

I went through all the repair receipts the couple had given me with the car, and looks like they spent almost $2,300.00 in the last 2 years! Every little thing works on this car, it's great... other than the frame and underneath.

Nice car, specially for the price you paid. It's got the LT1, so how bad can it be? (apart from the rust) Pete

Not all Caprice LT1's got the heavy duty alternator. Mine has the "little" one too.

Must be the bigger mirrors produce enough draft to cause static electricity. This compensates for the smaller alternator........... Be careful that you do not go to fast. You will over load the battery.

You may also overload the flux capacitor if you go past 88 mph

Cleaned up nice under the hood as well. It looks good!! We won't hold the big mirrors against it. You now have a hitch and an excuse to buy a camper!!!!

The Stars and Bars are my first mod.
The hitch is a permanent part of the car, the rust monster welded it to the rotted frame.

Me too. I hate my little mirrors. The doors are one of the things on my "shopping list" if that car gets parted.

How much difference do the "large" mirrors make anyway? I've always wondered.

Not 100% sure, but imo it almost doubles the view you have. The fleetwood we have at work has almost the same mirror as the Caprice/Roadie and they are a lot better than looking out the little mirror.

I must have those OZ wheels and I have a set of chrome BBS wheels to trade if you are interested! Now that is a good looking wagon and a huge SHAME about the frame rust. The previous owners obviously wanted to take care of the car,but I guess none of the service techs ever mentioned all the rust until it was too late.Maybe you could find a good frame and Chris can help you do a swap.Oh hell just repair the frame and suspension from underneath the car. Hey Chris just kiddin and I bet you thought everyone had forgot about your frame and body seperation anxiety! Good Lookin Car and future parts donor and thats a shame. Take Care Jim Gordon

I like how they are moved more forward than the door mounted mirrors. They also make the windows easier to clean. I have yet to measure both mirrors to get a size difference.
The main reason I swapped mine was because I removed the wood "stickers" and had the spare doors. Swapping the doors saved a lot of welding and putty to cover all the trim/mirror holes If only I had some spare rear doors and a dent free gate.

I've never driven a car with the small mirrors, but can say sitting in the ones in the salvage yard....well the 94 and older sure look tiny....and they sit so far back on the door it seems pretty odd after driving my 96.
BUT the 95-96 mirrors don't "feel" as stout and well made as the 94 and older. The larger mirror housings are kinda thin plastic, but I do like that they fold in. Helps in the garage.
