Airlift 1000 install

So it's been a little cold, but I finally got it done.

I installed an Airlift 1000 kit, part #60755 on my 92 caprice wagon. I bought them from ourdealsrock on Ebay for $84.95 shipped.

My wagon has always dragged the tailpipe on driveways. I found a trailer hitch on craigslist and the dragging got so bad it was messing up my driveway, so it was time to fix the problem.

These install without removing the springs, and since I was hunting down a brake problem, I already had the wheels removed. I left the bags inside to warm them up and make them pliable. To make the install easy, I wrapped the bags in zip ties to make them thin and they slipped right in.

Hot tip: put the air hose on BEFORE putting the bags in.

Next put in the isolater/spacer/protector disc.

Route your hoses out the bottom of the spring mount and across to the other side (or wherever you decide to mount your valve(s)). I ran mine above the fuel tank, behind the heat shields. I would post pictures of this, but you can't really tell anything from them.

Thank you for posting this and pictures! I just removed the cargo springs from my Cruiser, didn't like the way it raised the rear end. I think I'm going to do something similar to what you did.

Where did you mount the air fitting? Also, what are you planning on towing with your wagon?

Thanks for the write up, I just bought mine this morning from Autozone (had CASH the wifey didn't know about ) so I paid a bit more.

I am going to hook mine to the stock auto level. Have you thought about doing that?

Figure out where you want to place the tee and cut the hose. Put the hose on the other bag and install.

I tied my tee to the frame rail. The first time I have problems, I'm going to switch to a push-to-connect tee.
I know I am missing clamps. They all went flying and I had to get some more, but I wanted to get the pictures taken.

I put my fill valve in the filler cap area. I ran the hose up the filler tube and drilled a 3/8" hole for the valve. The valve installs with jam nuts on each side. Be sure and put the hose on the valve BEFORE you install the valve.

Now back to the other side to install the heat shields. Pay attention to the direction you orient the clamps so as to have easy access to the screw head. I use an electric screwdriver which makes tightning the clamps a breeze.

Then I go back to the drivers side, put in 10 lbs of pressure and add the valve cap. Paint the wheels red while I've got them off, slap them back on, lower the car, and no more trailer hitch drag.





The kit and instructions are excellent, with the exception of the clamps. The clamps are of the flying variety, the squeeze clamps that fly away every time you try to use one. My solution was to put a small piece of electrical tape on the back of each clamp. When it went flying, it was much easier to find. If you want to make your life easy, buy a brass tee and some worm gear clamps.

I did not spend much time perfecting the hose routing because I am unsure whether I am keeping this car. If I decide to keep it, I'll probably plumb it with push to connect fittings and hose. I'll also go back and trim off the hose clamps after I put some miles on them and inspect it again.

My car does not have the auto level, so I roll full manual. The ride of the car has improved as well. Overall, I'm very happy with this mod.

If your car's suspension is as dirty as mine, be sure to wear safety goggles.

Mostly I'll just tow a utility trailer to haul my remodel debris to the dump. I have a few cars I need to move as well. I often have a bunch of cargo in the back area, though, and it causes me to scrape. My car had 205xxx miles on it when the oddometer quit working, and I know I've put at least 20K on it since. The suspension has never been touched, so it's pretty worn out. Front suspension rebuild is slated for the spring if I keep this pig. I'd rather keep the wagon then get a truck, so hopefully this will allow me to be able to do that.

Anyone know how to hook up the 3/8" Airlift line to the stock micro line? I REALLY want to keep the Auto level.
