Did you put the bulb in the correct way...it has 2 pins, and one is higher on the base than the other.

I know this is from a while ago, but did you ever solve the problem?

I had a similar problem on my driver's side. The socket wasn't making good contact with the bulb, so I replaced the light socket, and now everything works great. With the parking lights on, try moving the bulb around in the socket to see if you can get it to light up at all. Mine would only turn on if I pressed it firmly into the socket.

I just went through this on my Bonneville.
When I installed a new bulb, it worked for a day or two then I was back to the same old problem.
I tested the bulb in another socket and it worked perfectly.

Turned out it was a broken ground contact in the base of the socket. Sometimes the light would work, sometimes not. Finally figured it out when I saw the light flicker when I moved the wire harness.
Replaced the socket assembly and all is good again.
