| So I am heading to Joe Nall this year. Major R/C Airplane event. My other hobby. Occ is on my chosen path so I decided to stop. Figured a good distraction about 4 1/2 hours into my trip have lunch gas up and keep going. Sign from their old shop. It was Mazda Day. The place was invaded by the Mazda Club. How often do you think he's had to use this? According to one of the people there they do this every year. So if you are into Mazdas stop by OCC on the first Saturday in May. Oh and Bill there was a Scoobie hiding amongst the Mazdas. Slideshow hereMore to come. Douglas. | |

| Yeah. Made it to Fredericksburg VA. Greensboro Tomorrow for a day or two at the head office. Then on to Joe Nall in Woodruff SC.
I kept my eyes peeled for B and D bodies all day. Drove through 8 states and only saw two. Both were on the New Jersey Turnpike. One was a Light Driftwood Roady going north. The other was a Caprice on the side of the road with four ways flashing also on the north bound side.
Our cars are really starting to become a rare sight on the road.

| I lived in Roanoke, which is right by you, for a spell awhile back and loved it there. Sounds like a great trip to go on. Also, IIRC, Fredricksberg is considered the moonshine capital of the world. If you enjoy the taste of pain, try some. | |

Thanks. When you get to be an old bast-rd like me and don't have to go to work, you'll be able to stay up late and watch these shows. Tom

Thanks. She's 121K miles young. I will keep posting them as they happen. Nothing exciting enough to take pictures of yet. Here is a flying tour of my destination. POV from a RC drone. FPV 5 - Triple Tree - Joe Nall 2011 from Hercdriver7777 on Vimeo.

| It's factory LAB or Light Adriatic Blue. It was overcast and the camera didn't compensate too well. Here is a shot in the garage right after I changed the Rims from factory to the Impala SS. From my spring road trip last year in front of Wall Drug. This one looks gray as well. Shot at the Flying field. This car is the same color. Picture taken at Wagonfest 2011. | |

| Really a pretty wagon, and it sure is amazing how the Impala wheels change the look of these cars!

| Staying at the O.Henry Hotel here in Greensboro North Carolina. This is one of their Airport Limo's. Fully restored Checker Marathon. Leather interior with an enormous back seat. They also have a new style London Taxi. There used to have a six door Suburban but I have not seen it yet this trip. Either it's no longer in their fleet or at their other property called the Proximity. Both hotels are really nice. (read expensive) Thank goodness work pays for the room! More to come... | |

| Very pretty pics! It's so green there...I'm jealous. Car, again, looks great. Love the wheels. Looks like a neat hotel too.
I like the Checker. That's one of those 70's Checkers with the water filled "geyser" bumpers. Don't know if a lot of the forum remembers these, but the rubber supports behind the metal bumpers had water-filled compartments in them. In an accident, the safety caps blow out and water would shoot straight up everywhere as the bumper compressed back, but it dampened most light accidents well, and all the cabbie mechanics had to do was re-fill them and put new caps on them, and get the cab back on the road.
A 70's solution to the bumper regs back then. Ha!
I researched Checker's for a high school report way back when. I always found them interesting. They were being phased out in 1986 when we moved from Denver to New Jersey and I got to see the last batch of ratty ones running around NYC, which got me interested in them.
Keep the pics coming!
-Mike

| I have returned! Trying to get my pictures organized. I will post some of the highlights. Car ran excellent without a hitch. Now I need an Oil Change. 2.5K miles in 2 weeks. Good times! Glad to be home though. New tires and wheels worked very well. However I did miss the stock tires over the bumps on our nations crumbling roads. Had some fun on several corners. People didn't expect the big old lumbering wagon to keep up with them in the corners. It's amazing what a difference performance tires make in the cornering and general handling of these cars. Trucks don't bother me as much either. You almost don't feel the turbulence when passing anymore. | |
