| This may be an old topic, but I'm new here and not very good with computers. Does anyone know where I can find plugs for the screw holes left behind when the roof rack is removed? Many thanks for any help... | |

| Get those smooth headed christmas tree push pin style fastners. Just a dab of silicone on under the head, push them in, boom - filled. | |

| Grammabud, make sure you post pics of your work and let us know how well the plugs do their job (especially in heavy rain). | |

| If you are going to paint, just fill 'em with something..... If not Bewb's idea is a solid one. | |

| OK do any of you geniuses happen to know what the metal thickness is on the roof and the hole diameter is?This mod seems to make a lot of sense when John showed me how easy it is to do with the help of the above plugs. Thanks Jim Gordon |

| Just remove one of the roof rib screws and take it into the store with you. Match up what you need with what you have. Also, I'm only hip to this because this is what a buddy of mine did on his wagon years and years ago just before he painted the roof. His only word of caution was to make sure you don't go overkill on the silicone because if it spooges out from under the head of the pin, the paint won't want to stick to it. His wagon has never seen a garage, and it's never leaked. | |

| I'm considering polyseamseal. It's a paintable adhesive caulk. Plus it's available in clear or white. My car happens to be white.

| Then ya might as well paint the tops of the pins too. Just scuff them all with scotchbrite, them push them into the top of a shoebox or something similar.
From there, hit them with a spray can type of adhesion promoter called Bulldog, then a primer and a body color matching topcoat. In theory, with the caulk you mentioned, they should seal, and be the right color, and become darn near invisible, which is what you'd want. | |

| I found the fasteners at McMaster-Carr. They call them tree rivets also known as ratchet fasteners as well as Christmas tree clips. They go for about $30 per 100. | |
