For those who live under a rock, this past weekend was a biggy for car guys in Michigan. Not only was the Impala SS Nationals in Detroit, but there was also both the Woodward Dream Cruise, and the Back to the Bricks show.
Here's the cliff notes of the differences:
WDC = Detroit & Cruise every night, then also cruise on Saturday.
b2b = Flint (30 minutes north) & Cruise every night, but huge static shows on Friday night and again all day Saturday, then cruising Saturday night.
Anyway, after I spent a cup of coffee at the Impala nats, my time at WDC was super limited due to other obligations, but we rocked b2b about as hard as we could, after a full breakfast of course.

https://s186.photobucket.com/albums/x36/phlintstone/2011%20Woodward%20and%20bricks/I knew I have mad love for wagons, and I lust for a 4 door hardtop, but I also learned looking through them that I must REALLY like 60's chevys and "traditional rods" more than I ever realized. Anyway, I really did try to capture what a huge amount of diversity showed up here in Flint. Everyone that came had a really great time, but I'm not one who is good at capturing people having great times - so what I have to share are pics of the cars.
Here are some individual pics from the album:
This one wanted me, and I wanted it back. I was in love:
Here's one of my favorite cars done in one of my favorite styles:
There was just something about this boxy caddy that WORKED for me.
There were so many wrong ingredients to the makeup of this car, but it turned out great anyway:
This 502 powered old sweetheart gave me an erection that lasted longer than 4 hours, but my Dr said it was common with this car:
Late model LS dropped into a greenhouse? Yes please!
If you put a penny in the back, it does a wheelie and spins around:
There was even a 16 cylinder Buick there, I think, or whatever:
Clearly, this dude had been rubbing his akward little woody like he was 13 all over again:
This 83 truck with a 440 had no business being as invisible as it was. It was more amazing than an 83 dodge truck ever should be:
They said they just inished it after working on it for 15 years, but the body work looked like they spent 15 days. SO CLOSE to cool, yet so far:
Conversely, this 57 Buick was just straight up SICK, and hidden in plain sight:
Check out it's headliner:
I only looked at it because the owners told me to - so I did, shrugged, and let them know, "Meh. Flames are allright, I guess, if you're into that sort of thing."
My legs, and my kid named Blase gave me away though.
Here's another 57 done totally different. Hard to believe those 2 used to be twins:
Rear engined somethingerother:
I didn't want to love this car because of the color, but I couldn't hate it either:
Insert obvious, yet totally appropriate "big woody" joke here:
70's Tradesman with wrought iron railing inside and 2 pteradactiles fighting on the hood? Hard to pack in any more 70's awesomeness:
This one is called "What would happen if John and Crovo were neighbors - part 1"
This one is called "What would happen if John and Crovo were neighbors and they had money"
This one is called "What would happen if John and Crovo were neighbors and they both drank"
Yea, half the body work would be duct tape and we'd spray the tires too.
This one is called "blah blah john/bill/neighbors pt2" - but what a bitchin little death trap of a ride. I stood there for over 10 minutes and was still finding things that were completely nuts - so here's a couple pics instead of just 1:
Yes. Yes you really do make the brake lights work by touching the bare brake light wire to the bare hot wire. Yes, the shifter lever really does go through the HOOD. Yes, there are no seat bottoms and the seat backs are frames form backpaks. Lastly, yes - yes I do want it.
Lastly-ish, I stood about halfway down the show and took a shot of what I'd just walked through. You literally can't see the other end, and there was just as much in the other direction. This was the main drag - the bricks - and there were streets on each side of it full of cars, and every cross street in both directions too - and all were FULL of GREAT rides.
Anyway, for what all was there, I didn't do it any justice and we never made it down as far as the hearse collection or to the corvette area with 1000+ vettes. There are alot more pics in the album, but I only took pics of a handfull of the ones I loved. You know how it goes, you oogle at a car and forget you have the stupid camera in your hand. So please don't judge the show by my small handfull of pix. If there was something you're thinking should have been there, rest assured, it was.
I had an absolute BLAST last week hanging out with Pat, Sue, Jimbeau, Sprocket, Sprocket Jr, Big Pimpin and his family, Dave Chugg, some of my Imapala buddies like BK, Black Kryptonite, and Erik - and especially my bride who provided great meals for us all. We all even made new friends along the way too.
Hopefully the other guys will chime in and share their pics of how the weekend looked through their lenses too, because I can't wait to see them!
Peace,
John
