| It's actually longer than a G8 for more rear-seat room. I thought they were going to be column shifted...hmmm.
Very cool! Now I'm itching to go drive by our local Chevy house.

| Explain to me again why GM thinks they can't sell these to the general populance?
To me this is more proof that the USA has received the most dumbed-down cars there are in regards to models built globally. Australia has some of the neatest cars...I think they may even still have a "ute"...same as an El Camino or Ranchero.
But, of course we all know why this is, because 80% of the people here are interested in no more than a mini-van or an oversized SUV. It's depressing.

It's depressing. this is because this is what has been shoved down our throats by the big 3 since around 1990. Trucks have lower crash standards than cars (or did), are cheaper to build because of this, and are physically larger so they can charge more. Add to that their lack of fuel economy to appease big oil and there you go... BTW, what was the sticker price, too small on my screen to read.

| The styling, or rather lack of styling, on these is terrible. The G8 looked great as do the new Chargers. These Bowties look like a front-wheel-drive Malibu. They must have consulted with the boobs that made the last generation GTO look like a Cavalier. | |

| To me, there's absolutely NOTHING about them that makes me want. The body lines suck ass and the interior looks cheaper than they did in the 90's. It's got no soul. It's got no "it" factor. It's got ZERO sexy. I hate it. It looks like a ford five hundred with shoulders and hips, and it pisses me off that I can think of several Hyundai's that I'd rather rent for a weekend. | |

| I just printed out the pics I have of the G8 and the new cappy. THESE ARE THE SAME CARS! change the front and rear bumpers, but the body stampings are close.... so is the detective interior. Switches are identical and in the exact same place. | |

| I dunno. They do look very similar (and they should) but you can tell they made up the longer wheelbase in the rear seat area. Look how much longer the caprice's rear window is than your (much sexier) G8. | |

I drove a 74 amc hornet with a serious 401 motor in it,. it got laughed at till it stood up 2ft coming out of the hole,. then somehow it looked real sexy,.. well the 94 caprice with its pointy windows (and little mirrors) morphed into the 96 impala ss,. so a little fibreglass panel,. a trunk spoiler here,. a chinspoiler with fag lights there,. some 20" kerome wheels,. and you have a re badged caprice,. lets call it an impala ss?? history repeating itself?? only faster,. car is begging for some mods,. how long will it be before some one adds the aforementioned parts to a black one with black tinted windows, makes up a cool SS grille with SS badges etc,.? chinese bling taillights,.. yada yada,. Nick waiting for the 3yr old caprices to come for sale,. then it'll be big cam 6.0 liter time!!

Not just to appease big oil, but SUVs are classified as trucks and don't count toward the manufacturer's CAFE. That's possibly the biggest cause for the decline of station wagons and muscle cars.

Don't go blaming the big 3 for the government regulations that got shoved down their throats. Blame the president, congress, and the EPA. Seriously. Spec sheet or not, the front end of that new Caprice does zero for me. I'd rather buy a Taurus SHO than that thing.

| With how GM made the sweet looking SS Impala out of the '94-'96 Caprice, an SS Impala out of this cop Caprice might just sell and perform damn good. Wonder why the window sticker shows it as a 2011 model not a 2012? | |

176 is pretty damn quick,.it would be damn good looking to me if i was driving it,. Actually, 176 m.p.h. is pretty damn fast. How quick something is refers to a passage of time, as in when racing at a drag strip. I would imagine with 360 h.p. it should do mid 13s at around 105-107 m.p.h. through the traps. My former 2007 Monte Carlo SS with "just" 303 h.p did a decent 13.99 e.t and about 99 m.p.h. bone stock at Atco Dragway in N.J.

Actually it makes little difference if you say fast or quick,. either way 175+ is rapid,.if you were standing at the side of the road and it passed you at 175+mph,. perhaps you might say it went by quick, and the passage of time might seem fast at 175+ mph,. Semantics. of course some folks equate everything to the 1320,.which is a science in itself,. perhaps if gm built the caprice with no more than 1320ft at a time in mind,. it might be quicker,.. The aerodynamics of the car really help to let it go so fast,. I wonder much horsepower would be needed to make a wagon go 175+mph? without aerodynamic aids,. Nick

| The horsepower needed would depend on how quickly you wanted to reach 175mph and of course the length of road available to you!Personally I have driven about 145 in a vette and 150 on my old Z1 Kawasaki. That speed on the bike was way back when I was 19 and I knew I was immortal.Didnt feel like I was going all that fast until I sat up on the bike, whoops that was not a good idea either!Never had either wagon over 85mph and that was barely keeping up with traffic. | With the computer restriction of about 110 made null & void (isn't there a chip or program that can be installed?), has anyone done a top speed run in an otherwise stock LT1 equipped wagon? Even at approx 4600 lbs and only 260 h.p., bet they could hit close to an honest 125-130 m.p.h.
Personally, my fastest ever in a car was 136 in my Monte SS before my wife strongly said "Steve, your scaring me!" Did an HONEST (not indicated) 167 on my 2003 Honda last summer before traffic shut me down. Stock that bike was rated for 177. Mine should have been capable of a true 180 m.p.h. Not the fastest bike on the road, but not to shabby.

| I run an indicated 115 on a regular basis on a 10 mile stretch of I95 on my way to work at 4:30 am. Keep in mind that my speedometer is off by quite a bit.... 65 on the dash is 70 on the GPS and 75=83...
Gas is free and plentiful and I am ALWAYS running late.....
I have had it over the indicated 120 a couple of times, but no GPS to confirm actual speed.....

I agree. I had a buddy down under that bought a new clubsport (this pic isn't his, which I can't find) ...and had to pull up pics of the G8 to convince myself they were the same car. because CAFE standards. CAFE used to be based on the average across the CAR line. If you offered a cobalt and aveo .. that freed you up for the Camaro and the RWD impala that was supposed to be. now under Obama, the CAFE is much higher , includes the truck and suv lines, but instead of being based on what you offer it is based on what you sell. in otherwords...if too many people think that the volt and upcoming spark ev are dumb and stick with buying what they want (tahoe..equinox....traverse) the camaro will hve to die too to meet cafe. Cafe doesnt count towards limited production vehicles such as said PPV becuase it isnt available to the general populace. Thus it will not be, save for second hand. but give them time...if its automotive and fun...they will find a way to keep us from buying them 2nd hand too! - mtrhead79 wrote:

| Thanks again Obama! Man I can't wait for the elections!!
Oh and just my 2-cents....Rick Perry is next to useless. All the growth my state has experienced was started before he took office and he's ridden the wave...making him very lucky, but in all honesty we've not even SEEN him until recently. I'm all for a small govt...but not an invisible one.
I like what Romney says, but don't like the fact that "everything is illegal in Mass"....makes me think if he was president he'd expand more laws that in my mind take away our freedoms. Plus I think the heathcare system in Mass is not much different than what Obama's pushed for.
Palin is a space cadett....glad she's not jumped in.
I like Paul but I think his ideas will scare off too many people
As for the others....nobody stands out....
So I'm torn who to pull for....but it will not be Obama.
Didn't mean to turn this into a political discussion....just stating my current view of things.

| Oh and one other thing to bring up. I have a friend that's a cop in Austin. We have a few Chargers in Round Rock, but the cop cars in Austin are all Crown Vics. He said the city has not purchased the Dodges because the Vicky's are cheaper and the city looks at bottom line above all else.
I mentioned that the last Vic had been built. He was really shocked, had not heard that. Seems like the rumors over whats next would have been flying, but he'd not heard a thing. He's curious what they will buy next as well. He had seen the Taurus proposal, but said the city did not like those at all due to the added complexity and percieved reliability and service issues.
We'll see!

| I know ACME racer has had his '92 TBI RMW "GS-X" up over 140 in Detroit, shutting down a vette. He says the motor is 'stock' but but considering his deep racin' roots I somehow think his version of stock may be a lil different.
I know the 94 1A2 was tested by Mich. state police at 136 on a test track with two officers aboard. that would be a 2.56 rear of course, and I would think there be a little pedal left even.
Some of the imp guys I know have clocked 150+ in their sedans with only minor mods (tune, CAI, mild cam).
Fastest I've driven a vehicle is 143 in a Lincoln Mark VIII, 132 in my 83 XJS (late to a wedding), 103 in my 1A2, 108 (hit limiter many times) in my 94 RMW.
Fastest ridden was 155 in a '62 Vette (SCARY), drove same car at 140, not sure which was scarier....

| Fastest I've ever gone is about 150 in dad's old Mazda 929. Took awhile to get there but it actually sounded pretty good, and was kinda fun (3am, no traffic, coming back from a party).
140 in a TBI wagon? Stock? I call shenanigans! |
