| I'm new here and before I posted, I did a search on LEDs and found that some of you folks had experimented with LED strips around the headlight assemblies. Nice idea, but my question is more basic.
I have a 95 RMW and I'd like to change all of the old filament type bulbs for the turn/stop and tail lights, front and rear, to LED bulbs. I have already changed the high-mounted stop light to an LED bulb and it works fine.
I know that I have to change the old thermal-type turn signal flasher flasher to a solid state flasher. But I've been told that if I change all the old front and rear bulbs to LEDs, that the cruise control won't work. I assume that this is because the LEDS draw so little current compared to the filament type bulbs.
I know I can wire resistors parallel to each LED but that defeats the value of LEDs and it's a sloppy solution.
I use the cruise control often so I don't want to lose it. Anyone have any advice in this area?

| If there was going to be a problem with the CC, it would have appeared when you changed the center stop light. | |

| I believe the problem with the center stop light being related to the cruise control is misinterpreted. The switch that works the center stoplight is the same one that works the curise control. If it is malfunctioning, it can also affect the cruise control. There are two sets of contact in the switch, one for the cruise and one for the light. There is a single actuator for both sets of contacts, and if it melts, it will affect both circuits. | |

| I originally posted this back in January.
I asked if I replaced the front turn/stop and rear turn/stop bubs with LEDs, will I cause any other problems such as disabling the cruise control?
I was told by a local mechanic, who may or may not know what he is talking about, that the cruise wouldn't work with LED bulbs installed. I thought I'd ask here before I went to the work of trying it. I trust that you guys really do know these cars.
I know I'll have to replace the OEM thermal type turn flasher and the hazard light flasher to compensate for the low current draw of the LEDs.
Forget about the LED center stoplight. That works fine. I'm just concerned about the turn/brake circuits.

| The cruise control and turn/stop lights have no wiring in common, so they would not affect the cruise control. | |

You need a Grote LED Flasher The flasher is actually pretty easy. the part itself is only about $10-16. I used the grote brand flasher which i had to fab a wire to each terminal post and reverse the polarity. pretty simple install took only about 15-20 min with all of the parts on hand. http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=265392&highlight=LED+flasher&page=2 I get the whole flasher deal.. I bought two of the circle flashers with a ground coming off of it.. Would this be the same concept? | |
