| honestly , Most of us don't use one because it's easy to get the codes by jumping the pins on the ALDL interface with a paperclip and watch the " check engine light" to read the diagnostic code.
Paperclip have the advantage of not costing $59.95 to replace when you drop them on the damn concrete, or that brother in law of yours borrows it without returning it (just like all your other tools he still has)

Dave, is that do-able on the '94 and '95s? I thought I had heard it only works on the '93 and older B-bodies. It is very easy to do though, I've done it on '80s GM's with ease.

| As far as OLDGUY's posting, no mention was made of the year of the vehicle. The ALDL reading is actually the factory service manual procedure, except it is typical to use a small piece of wire as well. Since I drive a 93, I cannot verify the system in the 94-95 although my recollection is that they were not true OBD2 systems like were found on the 96's. Another good source of info on the sunject would be using the search function over at the other forum, as they have a more expensive history and data base. http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/ | |

| Paperclip does NOT work on 94-95 OBD1 cars. 93 and earlier only. | |

| For $119.00 thats a great deal. A lot depends on if OLDGUY tells us what year vehicle he's working on, and if he intends to have it usable for several vehicles. If it's one 91-93 then a paperclip beats $119.00 every time. If he has several multi-year, multi-brands to scan then it's worth the investment. He WAS specific to OBD1 in his only post, and I would guess that's why he's asking if any of us have a used one to part with.
Maybe he'll repost with an update on his intentions.

| When did OBD die? I never gear about the funeral!
I knew that OBD 1, the first generation had passed on, but thought that OBD 2, the next generation was still kicking.
Is there now a love child, OBD the third,m or did inbreeding with the sheep corrupt it?
