Wow!, this is a great site. My name is Alan, I bought my 1994, 5.1 LT1 Caprice Classic Wagon new, so I am original owner. Made the decision this year to keep old "Barney". So I am going to spend a little doing it up, SS Conversion. I'll be needing some help I am sure, so I'm looking forward to talking with some of you guys in the future. Cheers; Alan.

Welcome Alan

I have never heard of anyone here, buying a wagon new and still having it. There are plenty here that bought from the original owner.

You will find a great bunch of guys here and a lot of info. I am sure you can contribute also, being a long time owner.

Tom C.

That's really awesome. Smile You still have all the paperwork that came with the car? Keep maintenance records?

My previous was a 1978 Pontaic Catalina, I put 535k on it. I am an entertainer so I use my wagons on the hi-way 90%. I sadly parted with my old Catalina in 1994 and then came the Caprice, wow! what a car. Still drives and looks like new (maintence, Maintence).

Welcome Alan and glad you found us! Amazing that you've had the car that long. Good luck with the SS conversion.

Oh and "my" first wagon was a '78 Grand Safari....Dad bought it when I was four years old, and I grew up in that car. I was 12 when Dad sold it..and yep, I cried when it left..ha! Wish the folks had kept it...Pontiac wagons are pretty rare now!! The '86 Electra wagon they replaced it with was prettier inside but the 307 was no match for the 400 the Safari had!

Again welcome and hope you stick around!

-Mike

Welcome to the forum, Alan. Cool to meet someone who bought it new. So what color is your wagon? Any pics? We'd all love to see it!

Wow, the 400 Pontiac engine. You almost NEVER saw one, even back then. In '77, it was the highest performance engine available (over the Olds 403) and almost nobody opted for it. They dropped it a couple of years later. What a shame.
It would have been nice to have that option in the '80's.

'78 was the last year for the real Pontiac 400 in the wagons. The engine itself was last used in some '79 Trans Ams. My Dad found out the 400 was going away and special-ordered my Mom a new one. Traded in our sweet '72 Cutlass Supreme Coupe for it too.

That car was wild, it was silver with wood over a wild tan and black striped interior from a Bonneville Brougham. My Dad had to fight the dealer to place the order for it, thinking it would look terrible, but when it came in, it looked so good, the dealer wanted to put it in the showroom, and soon after there were 5-6 others like it on the lot.

If you're bored and want to read the full story, I wrote about that car in this thread: https://gmlongroof.4umer.com/t3280-nice-pontiac-grand-safari?highlight=grand+safari

I wish we'd kept it!!!

Wow, finally a car with a stock, sexy interior! I'm totally flaccid over today's, "dull grey" or "dull buff" interiors.
