| For those of you who think Fred is only here to sell parts, I have something to tell you: I was going to buy a driver's door latch/lock/handle assembly from him to cobble some kind of gizmo that would unlock the door from the inside when you pull the handle... LIKE FORD MOTOR COMPANY DOES. Fred emails me back and sez: "You don't really need these parts. You can link the actuator rods together." (paraphrasing) So, we discussed it a little and I thanked him. I tried to come up with something more 'noble', but gave up because nothing worked. He's what works, and it just involves a big paper clip and some solder. I don't know how many 'opens' I'll get out of this before it breaks, but until something better comes along, it works fine. Thanks, Fred Keielhl. | |

| So this will allow you to pull on the inside door handle when locked, resulting in unlocking/opening said locked door? How does this prevent the door from unlocking/opening when using outside handle? | |

| The rod you are looking at doesn't move at all when pulling the outside handle. Scoff if you will, man. PS: If it did, the inside handle would tap someone in the titty when you pulled it. | |

| So reaching up and hitting the unlock button is too hard for you? |

| I usually just put it in "P" and the doors unlock automatically. | |

| It is, and they know it. It's part of Buick snobbery. I prefer the simplicity of the Chebby. Also, the aesthetics. | |

| Not scoffing just wondering how it worked? I wasn't sure if there was a disconnect between the inside handle and outside handle when forcing it to unlock using that neat little modification. Guess I should have used a different icon then the suspect one Maybe one of these would have been better: : , or , or because I had legitimate questions/concerns on how the outside handle would not actuate the unlock bar. That being said, I think it would come in handy to unlock the door by pulling on the inside handle, especially if you got in a wreck or a situtation where you needed to exit the vehicle quickly, but you're to scatter brained to realize/remember "DOH!" you have to unlock the door first resulting in a few lost seconds trying to exit the vehicle. Or maybe someone's just to lazy (talking about myself here) to put the car in park or press the unlock button, as you realized you forgot something in the house as you were backing out of the driveway and don't want to go back into the house yourself to get what you forgot so you tell/ask the the front passanger (kids/wife) to run in and grab said forgotten item for you? All they would have to do is pull on the inside handle and vio'la the door opens. Plus I've always liked the way Ford incorporated the "door unlock" when you pull on the inside handle to open the door function. I'm intrigued I think this might come in handy on my front doors too. | |

If you take the one screw out, and remove the handle bezel, you will be able to see how my ingenious invention works by operating the handle and lock peg. A keen observation will be required, but I just KNOW that the function will be evident to you in BFO fashion. One screw is all it takes. Go ahead, do it.

I am surprized that my name grew so many new letters.

| Didn't want to leave any of them out. heh heh Ideally, a spring-steel clip that would slide around the back of the lock link and snap onto the front (handle) link would be the ticket. But, I don't see anything out there. If you think of any kind of improvement, let me know Fred. For the time being, this is all I've got. | |
