Glass Liftgate Cylinder Replacement Empty

Given that I'm always nervous working around anything made of glass, especially glass that is probably expensive...is there any trick or thing to watch out for when installing new gas lift cylinders on the rear glass?

The old ones are totally spent and I don't fit through the gate opening with the glass down. Wink This made exploring the contents of the rear storage area and attempting to play with the folding seat annoying.

Is there any place that I "should be" buying these from? What's a fair price for a set?

Pretty easy job, but where it's sounds like it is your first time, have someone hold the glass to support.

Disconnect the wire for defrost (assuming it has that). There is a tension type clip on either end. Release the clips and remove shock. Replace with new, that's it.

Yeah. Not a bad job at all with a second pair of hands. Smile

Once replaced out of necessity, and one set replaced because they were worn.

Worst case scenerio, use a board to hold the gate glass up, and remove the old struts. Attach one to the car, and then lift the glass, and push the new one onto one side, then let the glass settle, go to the other side and repeat. I have done it this way, and it is easy. The glass is fragile, but it will not break if you do not drop it.
