| Changed the oil in the '92 OCC last night. Put in Castrol GTX 5W30, per the reccomendation on the oil cap. This morning I swear I heard a little tap right at start-up. Just curious what others are running. I just put in regular GTX, not the high mileage...the car has just over 62K miles on it now.
It was cold this morning, 42-degrees, but heading to upper 70's to near 80 later today. Since we hardly hit freezing here, I'd think 5/30 would be fine. I ran that in my Roadmaster...but the High Mileage version, and also in my 360 Ram and '03 5.3 Susburban.
Any thoughts gang?

| I'm using 10W-30 GTX High Mileage on the wagon and the GN. The wagon is doing fine at 249,875 miles. Quarter million, here we come! | |

| Not a huge deal. May swap to 10/30 on the next change. | |

| The owner's manual says that either 5W30 or 10W30 may be used. I put in synthetic 5W30 since it's what almost everything around here calls for.
I later discovered that the previous owners had been running 10W30. I will probably go back to that. Not sure what a 20 year old engine would think of having its oil type changed over the long term.
There are 83,500 miles on my wagon so far. I did not notice any odd noises when the engine built oil pressure. | |

| Mike,I've been running the Castrol GTX SynBlend in 10W30 and if the tapping annoys you that bad I would go ahead and drain it and go with the 10W30 GTX.Never heard any tapping out of any of my engines but I have NEVER used the 5W30 weight in any of my engines. |

| Try some castol syntec 0W-30 (make sure it has the red label and says made in germany) or mobil 1 0W-40. Just change it less often. | |

| Have not heard a start-up tap since that other morning, but it's not been in the 40's since then either. I still may swap to 10W30. | |

| When I first bought the car, the front seal was leaking. I checked the oil, and it was like 2 qts OVER FULL! So, I took some out, and no more leaks! When I changed oil, I put in Amsoil 0W-30, and it hasn't leaked (or burned) a drop in almost 5,000 miles now! Totally happy with the engine! Of course, I did flush the engine before I installed the Amsoil. So, the engine was pretty clean after that!
I'm editing this to add, that when I bought the car, it had like 86k on it, and it now has 91k.
